i7-2600 or i7-950

Hi there :)

I'm either going to go for this i7-2600 system or an i7-950 one, but the 2600 system is coming out marginally cheaper, to my suprise. I was tempted to consider the 2600K, just so I have the option of overclocking, but to be honest, I have never overclocked and don't see myself doing so any time soon.

i7-2600 System

PCS MAELSTROM T900 BLACK GAMING CASE

Intel® Core™i7-2600 Quad Core (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics

ASUS® P8H67-M LX SI: MICRO ATX MAINBOARD, LG 1155, SATA 6.0Gb/s

8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (4 x 2GB KIT)

1280MB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX470 - 2 DVI,mHDMI - DX® 11, 3D (Special Offer!)

1TB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

600W Quiet 80 PLUS Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan

SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

ONBOARD GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps PCI CARD

i7-950

Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-950 (3.06GHz) 4.8GTs/8MB Cache

ASUS® P6X58D-E: DDR3, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0GB/s, 3-Way SLI

6GB KINGSTON HYPER-X TRI-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (3 x 2GB KIT)

Rest of the spec is the same as above

Also, am I right in saying that if you choose non standard CPU cooling you loose the 220mm fan from this case?

If anyone could advise me if there are any bottlenecks / weak areas in this system, it would be much appreciated. I don't know much about what's what when it comes to motherboards, so any advise in that area would also be helpful.

Thanks! :D

What is you budget and intended use of the pc? If you tell us then we (the forum members :D) can help you in choosing the best spec for your needs.

I forgot that cruicial info :p

Budget is £1000 (i7-2600 system is currently about £960, and the i7-950 system is currently £1020)

I'll be using it for Games, Photoshop/Photo editing, Basic CAD (i.e. Sketchup) and Occasional Video editing/making. I occasionally venture into more demanding applications (I'm trying my hand at Rendering, with mixed results :D)

Its the new tech, it benchmarks better at stock, and has much more OC potential ( the K that is ) the 2600 is more bang for buck, and the 2600k overclocks like a beast.

theres no chance that the P8P67 DELUXE mb will support an intel socket 1366 right? only the sandy bridge p67 cpu cores will fit for it if im correct? just thinking if there happened to ever be a change in cpu.

anything with 67 in it will only support 1155 :D P67 or H67 when refering to MB's of course.

There no backwards compatability,

I've changed the motherboard to a slightly better one, change ram to the samsung one, If you are not planing to overclock than this should be ok, changed the hard drive to a better one, and changed the psu to a better quality one as well. And I've assumed that you don't need an operating system is that correct?

fort so lol if only there was backwords compatability :p still quite a tough choice to choose from lol. so you think that future intel 58x mb supports 2133mhz type rams?

everythign 1155 from here on out can do 2133, and the IveBridge the next intel line up on 1155 will do triple channel :D

lol i was checking the spec of the sandy mb an apparently it supports or turns a 2000mhz ram into a 2133mhz instead? or isit 1866? is that possible or just some funny natrual overclock?

"* Due to CPU behavior, DDR3 2200/2000/1800 MHz memory module will run at DDR3 2133/1866/1600 MHz frequency as default." thats wat it says lol

Thanks for the advice.. I do need an OS (Windows 7 Home Premium), but running £30 or £40 over budget isn't the end of the world. :)

Also, I just wanted to ask what brand/model the cheaper monitors are (i.e. the ones where the brand is not specified).

Or are they just some generic unbranded thing? As long as they are vaguely decent quality I don't care what they are, but it'd be nice to know.

I was thinking of going for the 22" Wide TFT Silver/Black.. any good? It says silver/black.. is the screen surround black on these, because I hate a silver surround monitor?

You cans just press the ''?'' button in the periphals and accesories section next monitors and you should have photos of the monitor and some specs

I'm fairly sure it said the image was for illustrative purposes only.. although having checked back I probably read that for some other component.
