Hey all!

I'm looking to get a powerful home PC for both work and gaming along with a high refresh 2K monitor. My work requires a powerful CPU hence my Ryzen 7 5800X choice but the GPU and monitor are solely focused on gaming so are up for debate. I just felt this was a good build and wanted to see if others thought the £320 over my original budget is worth it or not.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

3080 is wasted on that monitor mate, to make use of the 3080 you would ideally want a 4K monitor like the Samsung G9

I recommend the 3070 for that monitor personally but the 3060Ti is a viable alternative

Fairs, you saying the GPU could run 4K at 144Hz pretty easily then? because obviously 4k is the goal haha

If you wanted , you could always downgrade your M.2 SSD drive from 2TB to 500GB ( you could add another ssd if you wish and keep the 500GB drive for windows only ) and upgrade your monitor to a 4K and be happy with your set-up , also do you really need Norton Anti-Virus as windows itself has 1 incorporated ?

Thanks for the suggestions. I am migrating from Mac so I was unaware windows now had an antivirus😂

Ah right missed that detail mate, 4K 144Hz pretty much need a 3080. The 3070 does really really well here too but the 3080 is the choice for that kind of beef

Did you have any reasonably priced 4K 120+Hz monitor suggestions?

LG 27GP950 4K 144hz at Currys

Samsung G7 4K 144hz at Currys

Both are out of stock at the moment, but these are the best sub £1000 4K 144hz monitors,

there is a £100 difference on these two, though there pretty much the same, except the Samsung has HDR400 and the LG is HDR600,

I'm using this LG model, and i bought this before i upgraded to a 3080Ti, It's worth getting the monitor asap to get your moneys worth out of the 3080.

Hi all!
Thank you for the advice. Think I’m gonna make the jump and go for 4K. I’ve taken on johtri’s suggestion and re-jig my storage and remove Norton (new specs below) Going to buy my monitor separate to pc specialist when I get my next pay check.👍🏼

Just a couples of notes mate the 4TB HDD is only 5400RPM which is abysmally slow in this day and age. Max I would recommend is the 3TB version which is still 7200RPM. There is also the Iron Wolfs but they are server rack drives and very loud

Also you're much better going for a M.2 SSD as your secondary storage as opposed the the SATA you've selected. At their slowest M.2's are up to six times faster than SATA SSD's

I would want a minimum of 850W PSU for a 3080 build mate and the 5800x is one of the hottest running chips on the markets so you're really rolling the dice a CPU Cooler that isn't tried or tested to my knowledge

Silver warranty is also only a fiver and well worth it. I also wouldn't bother with Windows 11 I'd stick with 10 for now, it's a free upgrade when it's worth swapping to
