i looked into this Martin, apparently there is a problem with the firmware on the Samsung pro 990 drives.
Samsung know about the issue and have released a firmware update, running their free app "Samsung magician" will update the firmware and fix any already bad sectors. PCspecialist has been made aware of the issue.

thanks for the heads up.

That was an issue when it was first released that was sorted out years ago. It's almost impossible any drive being bought now would be on such an old firmware, they would be shipped from the factory with a modern firmware.

Despite that, they are still very prone to failure, they're just not great drives. Still wouldn't be recommended.

You also don't partition SSD's, they don't operate like an HDD. You wouldn't configure any system with a single drive anyway, but with the increased RAM and drive space it suggests a use such as video editing in which case, a single drive will cause a major bottleneck.

Why have you chosen so much RAM? What's the system for?

rams incredibly cheap in the great scheme of things

i do music production which is rather ram heavy.
So yeah, you need to revisit your drive setup, I'm not sure the Recoil is an appropriate choice for audio, the GPU will result in very high fan noise, low battery life, and you're not even going to be using the GPU anyway?

Seems an odd choice.

It also requires the external watercooler to function properly without major thermal throttling.

i like games as well
Ah, that makes more sense.

For your drive setup related to audio you want the primary OS drive and libraries and plugins to be a P44 pro, they’re far more reliable than the Samsungs and have higher endurance while performing about the same. 2tb should be overboard, but all depends what suites you use

theb you want a secondary NVME for libraries and plugins, only you know what size you’d need, either a PCIe 3 or 4 drive is plenty here, the P41 pro is a good value option or the P44 pro if you’re not worried about cost.

I would recommend avoiding the Samsungs, they’re just not terribly good drives this generation.
