Three standard questions! What's the purpose? If it's gaming, what monitor(s) will you be using (resolution and refresh rate)? Finally, what's the budget?

Finally, it's worth noting that Intel is currently not a good bet unless you have a very specific reason for needing it...

Apologies, probably should of specified the purpose. It's for gaming, I play a lot of games in my spare time (Valheim at the moment but I play a lot of total war, civ 6 and I'll be playing ghosts of Tsushima when it lands on PC) I currently have 2 x 60ghz 1080p Samsung monitors but will be upgrading in the future. This build is a little over my budget but I'm willing to spend the extra, so I'd say around £1,700

Nice to see PCS have 11th-Gen Intel in stock, although all reviews I've seen so far seem to agree that the 5800x is better across the board.

same here, I don't think the 11th gen intel has been worth the wait and has not met expectations, better off with Amd at the moment

Its all pre order i believe.
For the money youve spent on that build alone though, i know you can get amore. It would likely do what you want, but the budget it there to achieve something much better

If you have the time, please make a suggestion. I have pretty basic knowledge in terms of computer components. Trying to educate myself too :ROFLMAO:

The 3060 Ti are ETC 1-4-2021 you could switch GPU to that and it adds about £70, but would mean when you step up a monitor to 1440p the card will run it. Case is £100, and few other good options at that price point, so see what you like and whatever budget wiggle room you may have, but that would be the basic build I would suggest

The way its looking at the moment, Intel isnt going to be catching up to AMD, the 5000 series CPUs are still very much the way to go.

You can manipulate it a little if you want the 5800X, its a little over budget and a few tweeks with storage etc but still a solid machine, and a good upgrade path to get a long lifespan, if you could push another £10/£20 quid up the PSU to 850W

I wondered about 3200MHz RAM and a 850W TXm instead... would probably be a little better in terms of upgrading down the line.
Would be £1739 https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/9DJgY4!YgH/
Depends what it's for, 3200Mhz is absolutely fine with negligible difference between that and 3600Mhz. Rendering however the difference is a bit more profound. For gaming though that would be a solid compromise that I would probably make for a better PSU

Hey guys! I've got an order in currently which has been in pre-production for 30 days now, and I suspect it may be longer so rather than sulk, I'm using it as an opportunity to fine tweak what I have so far.

this is the build;

I've already changed a few things such as;

Change to [16GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3600MHz (2 x 8GB)] from [16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB)]

Change to [CORSAIR iCUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER GAMING CASE] from [CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE]

Change to [8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti - HDMI, DP] from [12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 - HDMI, DP]

Anymore recommendations?

Yeah you can remove the thermal paste the CPU cooler will come with it's own high quality paste. They'll have to remove that to apply the new paste and it could create unneeded issues

I do notice though that you've replaced a 1440p GPU for a 1080p GPU? The 3060 Ti is a lot more powerful than the 3060, just want to make sure you know that? You will need a 1440p 144Hz to make use of that GPU

Are you saying that the build now includes the RGB RAM, the 3060 Ti and the 5000X? It'll probably be the 3060 Ti that you're waiting for. If you're keen to hurry it along, you could consider the Radeon 6700XT instead. That's presuming you're now using a 1440p monitor. If you're still on 1080p60, anything more than a 1650 Super is a waste.

In terms of changes, you can lose the expensive thermal paste. I'd consider upgrading the power supply to the RMx model. And for the sake of £22, I'd upgrade the primary M.2 to the ridiculously fast 980 model instead. Neither of those is precisely necessary as the TXm and 970 Evo are both really good products, but if you have the budget to do it...

I've merged this with OP's original thread, you'll now have the reason available :) (y)
