Internet connection & mouse lag

Hi all,

Appreciate this seems to be a common issue but I’m about to Chuck my pc through the window as I can’t seem to solve my issues!

I have had this desktop for over a year now but since I have moved house, I am having serious issues with connecting it to the internet (via Wi-Fi - yes my antennas are connected) it decides to change its mind whether to work or not, connecting, then click on the internet and get the dreaded no connection page, if it manages to stay connected, it runs slower than the slowest dial up known to man and then crashes again. It bogs out and decides it doesn’t want to search for any other known available networks and then now it’s permanently offline. I am unable to connect via Ethernet as a fix due to where my router is located so Wi-Fi is my only option.

It just so happened to be working fine yesterday, did a windows update (prob a few months overdue) downloaded adobe illustrator, repaid my bullguard protection (as that had expired) and now this morning it’s not having any of it.

To top it off a previous issue which fixed itself has reared its ugly head is now my ADX gaming wired mouse has decided to start lagging making it very difficult to manoeuvre the mouse and click then damn buttons you want to click!

I have uninstalled the new windows update in hope that would help as I heard that can cause internet issues but if anything it’s made it worse.

I troubleshoot the network and the following error appears:
“Wi-Fi” doesn’t have a valid IP configuration

Pc: PC SPECIALIST - Tornado R5 Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5, GTX 1660, 1 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD

Any help would be so appreciated right now 🤞🏼Thank you

UPDATE: Iv lugged my pc downstairs next to my patio door to plug in direct through Ethernet and now everything runs perfectly. So I’m 100% having an issue with the Wi-Fi aspect of the pc.

I have been advised to try the windows 11 update but it’s saying I don’t have TPM enabled therefore am unable to support the update. Any idea how I go about enabling this, if at all possible? (Sorry complete noob here!)

Have you registered your PC with PCS - as it would be easier to see the actual components then from the 'Post Spec to Forum' link you will have within your account on PCS website.

A couple of things to consider:

- during the house move, components may have 'loosened' their connections inside - therefore consider taking the side off, taking out and reseating items, in particular wifi card.

- does the new house construction differ to the old in anyway - ie brick walled interior at all compared to partitioned plasterboard/plaste walls?

- how far away and what positioning is your wifi in the house compared to your PC for usage.

- have you tried connecting directly to the router with an ethernet cable to make sure it is the PC having an issue and not actually a slow / temperamental internet connection

- are all windows updates up to date

- it would help (see initial sentence) knowing what type of WiFi card you have so we can give more advice around drivers for that.

Hi Bhuna50,

Thank you for the response.

1. I have registered but unable to see the option to 'post spec to forum' but if it helps, I have copy and pasted into another comment.
2. I have checked the internals and everything appears to be nice and tight and secure.
3. construction is better in this house if anything for signal (old house was solid brick walls and boosters planted everywhere. this is just a cheap new build with naff all structure (selling my house here i know! haha)
4. . i only live in a little house so the router is no further than 6 meters away if that.
5. i am currently connected directly though the ethernet and everything works perfectly. its the moment i turn to wifi.
6. i updated windows and thats when the issues started up again. so i uninstalled again and then it got even worse. - currently trying again while plugged into ethernet and tried to upload windows 11 but its saying i have not got TPM enabled - unsure if my PC even has a TPM chip?

You could use ethernet by getting plug-in adapters that use your electricity circuit. I've got Netgear powerline but there are cheaper ones. My wifi was running like yours at around 4Mbit and intermittently dropping out, but with the adapters I get the same speed as if I was plugged directly into the modem (currently 70Mbit).

Thank you. Assuming this would use an Ethernet cable to go directly to the adapter without the need to use the wifi card in the PC? May have to look into this at least a for a temporary fix. Annoying thing is, everything was working perfectly yesterday :(

Not to say that @stegor workaround is poor or anything, it's a very viable solution, but it doesn't address the cause.

I would try connecting to a different wifi, try tethering off your mobile. If that fails, it's likely a duff card, you can RMA just the card itself and get it replaced under warranty.
