Ionico 17 - Possible to run 1440p 240hz on external monitor?

I also possess an external gaming monitor capable of 240hz 1440p.

I am currently using HDMI and I am aware that it is limited to 1440p 144hz. As the Ionico does not have a DP port from what I could see, I was wondering, would using a HDMI to DP or USB to DP adapter cable make 1440p 240HZ possible? Or is this a no go?

You do have DP its via the USB-C port

Whether you can reach 1440p 240Hz is going to depend on the game and graphic settings.

No worries.
You want a USB-C to DP cable and you need to make sure its rated at 2k 240Hz.

I have the 2k 165Hz version of that cable and it works a dream.

*Edit* - You probably don't want a 6 Ft on though

If it's only DP 1.2 will it be able to reach 240hz? AFAIK you need DP 1.4 to hit that at 1440p.

Hdmi to dp is just hdmi, you're limited by the original port.

Yeh i appreciate that but HDMI 2.1 is capable of 1440p 240Hz and i believe that laptop has HDMI 2.1.

I just spoke to PCS. Apparently its is. According to them all RTX 30 series laptops have HDMI 2.1 as its part of the card.

What make and model monitor do you have? Has it got HDMI 2.1? If so just use a straight HDMI to HDMI

Ah, so it's only HDMI 2.0 so limited to 144Hz at 1440p.

I'm not certain if an HDMI to DP port will work, but it's worth a try.

If this is the case its probably better to stay with USB-C to DP as G Sync will still be useable.

From what I’ve read, there is no hdmi to dp cable capable of 1440p 240hz yet so guess I’ll stick with 144hz for now. Does G Sync work with regular HDMI?

No this is why i think you should stick with the cable i originally linked. For G Sync to work you have to use DP.
