Is anyone sorry they bought a gaming PC ?

Hi guys.
I'm in the process of building a very decent gaming pc on this site.
It's going to cost about £1k.

The main reason Is I'm getting a bit bored of the age-ing graphics of the Xbox360.
I'm sure many of you people had the same idea and have already built and ordered your PC.

what i want to know Is, Is anyone sorry they did as they feel they ended up wasting their money. for example alot of games are just poor ports of the consoles ?

Some games are ports of the console version, but those games are usually better on console anyway, ie call of duty but there are many games that look stunning on PC. Also games are cheaper, so everytime you buy a brand new game take off a tenner from your PC price, and eventually you'll get near to nothing because £10 does add up each time, and the cheaper games are also much better graphics quality

You will find that the vast majority of PC Games (most legenday) are actually unique to the PC and do not exist on consoles, you only get one game every so often that is a horrid port of a console game. The vast majority of time devs port games from the PC to the console, rather than the console to the PC. Unlike console games, with PC Games you have communities, mods, custom maps, etc too.

i've been playing games on PC for 15 years BUT i havent played any since 2006 when the Xbox360 came out and alot has changed since then.
so im out of the loop so to speak, hence my question.

you will also find the value of a mouse and keyboard over a controller thats a big reason why pc online gaming has never crossed over with xbox they tried it once or twice and found that ppl using controllers got owned in most cases due to the speed and accuracy of a mouse and keyboard

Whilst we are on the subject of game controllers.
can i play most racing games with an xbox360 pad or is that ONLY for "games for windows" titles?

PS- i know i require something called crossfire for the pad to work :turned:

yes a wired xbox controller will work on most games


ps yes wireless will work with the adapter but from personal experiance theres issues found the controller disconnecting alot when being heavy handed

Just use a recharge cable - cheaper and don't DC. I have used an xbox controller on games but I only use them for COD and BF3 and maybe the odd other game. I wouldn't use it for something like starcraft as you need literally every key on the keybooard

Fair does. Whoever said that CoD was built for PC and was ported to consoles was an idiot though. They are made for xbox. Then modified for PC (not much tinkering going on here. Just need a few things changed as they run the same code (C++ or was it C#)). PS3 people get the short end of the stick at first as they get the shoddy ports; as they would do from a company with exclusivity agreements....

Agreed, while games are designed with consoles in mind, particularly on the graphics side of things, the games are still made for PC and then ported to xbox and ps3, however as stated above ps3 does draw the short straw because of the differences in coding.

The xbox seriously sucks as a console same for ps3... The gpus are so old now. Its like playing PC on Minimum settings and less...

Just look at a game like Oblivion for example. It came out on the consoles and on the PC, and both were almost identical. Now, 4 years later or however long since Oblivion was released, look at what's available for the PC version. Mods that overhaul the game so entirely that it's like playing a different game, a game Oblivion should have been in the first place. People looked at the game and said... "This level scaling sucks" and modded it out. "These potion bottles look cartoony" and made them less cartoony. "There just aren't enough swords" and added more swords. "The graphics aren't as good as they could be" and made the graphics better. With everything that the community added and took away, the game feels darker, grittier, more immersive, 100 times better than the original.

This is why I haven't even thought about buying a console since I was 12 years old and played my first ever PC game.

Secondly I absolutely hate CoD on consoles... But why you may ask? Well its very simple, The xbox/ps3 community is riddled with 8 year olds who can afford a £150 console and get their parents to buy them 18 rated games and the squeal down the mic when they kill you in the most noobish manner

That said, I find Black Ops on PC much more enjoyable.. Why? Because I run a dedicated server where there is none of this best host connection, Where I control the server... Start being a noob on my server and corner camp/noobtube, BANHAMMER!

It makes the game a lot more enjoyable when you actually have people playing the game properly and not trying to grief people just because they can...

Other games also look a hell of a lot better on PC, Take Just Cause 2 for example.. on max settings the game is literally breath-taking it looks almost real & I also have to agree with the above post about Oblivion, some of the really old games have been modded to the point that they are better NOW than they were in the start

If you are mature enough you should be enough. But I hate all squealers and no balls.... Plus the graphics are so bad on the 360. I play on it as I have free live until next christmas (2012)
