Is my PC fine?

So just below my graphics card and above the psu is a little led( not sure that's the right term) with the number 40 , it originally said AA , it now never changes from 40 regardless what I doing . Any idea what its representing?, psu power draw?

It will depend on the motherboard, its likely to be a status of some kind, it should say in the manual for your motherboard.

If you're not sure what motherboard you have you should be able to check in the 'My Orders' section of the main PCSpecialist website. And then Mr Google should hopefully find you the manual, though there may be a paper copy in your welcome pack. This is presuming its a PCSpecialist machine of course

It's the boot status of the board, it's a troubleshooting tool if you have post issues, it can tell you where the issue lies.

You don't need to worry about it, you'll be asked for the status code if there are any issues relating to boot.

So my PC that I ordered PC Specialist and arrived 2 days ago just gave me a heart attack.

Was surfing the net when suddenly the PC froze for about 5-10 seconds couldn't move cursor or ctr alt delete. Then it randomly restarted and started processing an update. installed the update and did some "cleaning" (never seen it do that after an update before)
In every other PC I have owned they usually give you some warning.

Temps look fine, assuming the Corsair H100x Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler temp display isn't broken. Do you think the update was just a coincidence and there's an underlying issue? If that was just a windows update how do I disable these random restarts or at the very least get it to warn me in advance?

The first thing you need to do with a new PC is run windows update, there will have been many critical ones that needed applying as they've patched some zero day instances recently.

It's likely it was applying one of those which would have been a priority.

Also have you got bull guard installed, if so uninstall it and use windows defender instead

Got rid of bull and replaced it with Norton antivirus .

I wouldn't recommend Norton, windows defender which is part of windows has been rated the top protection for the last 2 years running and is free. Norton is severely bloated for lesser protection and extremely expensive!

I promise this is the last question from me for a while.

So playing RDR2 at 4k with a lot of settings ultra/high seems to really push this card. I'm using afterburner to manually set the fan speeds. if I set it to about 80. The GPU never goes above 73 degrees.
so question 1 is that a good temp?
question 2 since I game with headphones I'm not bothered about the noise of the fans, I'm more concerned about keeping the card cool . will this strategy hurt the card in the long run?

That temperature is absolutely fine, no need to worry at all. If you were pushing 90 degrees on a regular basis that’d be a cause for concern...

But if you can post your full system specs, you’ll be providing the brainiacs with the right ammunition to help you 👍

As @AgentCooper correctly says, the 3080 has a much higher operating temperature than previous generation cards.

73c is incredibly good, I would expect nearer 85c.

Oh no! That's jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!

You only need Windows Defender, it's as good as (and better in some cases) than most third party AV tools - plus Defender is free.

Yeah windows defender is well adequate & wont take any money out of your bank account in a years time like Norton will when you forget it's on auto renew..........
