Yeah there are quite a few glaring issues mate, it's seems you've compromised everywhere to go for a premium GPU which is pretty much the opposite of what we would advise. Previous Gen CPU, previous gen Motherboard, PSU that's extremely light, odd storage set up and a very basic case. Then a really overpowered GPU to completely unbalance the build, sorry to be blunt mate but it's how I read it

Can you let me know your budget, what monitor you'll be using what the machine will be used for and we can help you get something that will suit your needs much better and last you a long time?

No need to apologize, I needed the advice, my budget is around 1.5k to 2k

looking to play games mostly, some demanding some not, (sorry if that's not very helpful)

and I'm currently using a 1444hz 1080p monitor but I'm looking to upgrade to a 1440p one fairly soon

Hi Martin,

Is there a reason for the B550 STRIXX as opposed to the TUF X570? X570 comes with PCie 4.0 which I don't believe the B550 STRIXX does? Other than that this is a very solid build for top end of 1440p

B550 has the CPU lanes at gen 4 speeds (which means the 16x slot and the first M.2 slot) and the chipset lanes at gen 3 speeds. Unless you want two gen 4 M.2s, the B550 is fine. (I went for the X570 because I want to do precisely that at some point, but it's kind of unnecessary...)

For a build closer to the £1500 mark there is this option as well, although considerably less powerful than Martins build.

I would ask if your comfortable installing Windows as well? It's quite time consuming with a lot of drivers to install, I almost always opt to have it done for me for convenience, but hey if you know how to do it and don't mind I can get why you would want to save there

The 5800X is a massive upgrade from the 5600X where the cost will come in is the upgraded motherboard and CPU cooling that's also needed. Plus you'll need a case that can generate good airflow as the 5800X runs very very hot. I'll put together a 5800X build here shortly with a 1440p GPU to give you an idea of costs

Cheers again, but would you mind just explaining how the 5800x is such a massive upgrade? I watched a lot of benchmark videos and they tend to draw in relatively similar FPS counts.

Games r moving towards using 8 cores ps5 and new xbox have 8 core cpus newer triple A titles will more then likely use 8 cores metro enhanced edition with ray tracing is you guessed it 8 cores the 5600x will do but if you want ultra presets for future games you will want the 5800x

I think while many current titles may not fully utilise multiple CPU cores - and therefore the 5600X will run very close to the 5800X right now - things do seem to be changing rapidly. The 5800X would be a great future proofing bet against that trend I would say?

ok, thanks all, I think ill go for the 5800x, largely because I very rarely upgrade my PC (5+ years) so it seems like solid future-proofing.
