I'm trying to make a build for my mate that is around £1000.
What is the best thing to downgrade to get to the budget?

What sort of games was your friend hoping to play and at with what sort of monitor (ie resolution and refresh rate or make/model)?

Do note though that due to the current costs of PC components, £1000 will just not get you a "good" PC unfortunately

A few people may be able to spec something up, but it will probably be with a view to upgrade various things as money becomes available

As above, the prices are very high and we would need some more information. Taking your core as it stands the below doesn't save anything but offers a far better balanced build:
