Is this system ok?

Hi! I'm planning on buying a new computer but I'm not sure if this build is viable, I have a basic understanding of PC building and want to keep a budget of around 1200 pounds. I need a good processor like this one because I love strategy games and they are CPU intensive (mostly paradox interactive titles). I also really want the RTX 2070 SUPER so I can play the latest games with ultra resolution and high framerates, I'm also pretty interested in the RTX technology. I have a spare windows 10 code so I won't be needing another one with the computer. My main concerns with this build is the case, RAM and power supply.

RTX 2070 SUPER so I can play the latest games with ultra resolution and high framerates

When you say "ultra resolution" are you talking about 4k gaming e.g. you have a 4k TV or do you just mean you want to texture resolution set to ultra?

What monitor are you gaming on? What is its resolution and refresh rate, or what is the exact model if you don't know?

I'm planning on buying a 1080p 144Hz monitor for now, but I plan to expand to either a 1440p 144Hz monitor or a 4k 60Hz one. I'm also interested in VR.

A little bit above my budget though.

When are you planning to get a VR kit or the 1440p 144hz / 4k monitor?

What are your budgets for these?

It's important to make sure the system fits what you'll be asking of it.

e.g. if it's going to be 1080p 144hz for a year, and 4k upgrade after that, no point buying a 4k gaming GPU now because it will have been made obsolete by the time you really make any use of it.

The VR kit is for next year along with the 1440p monitor, 4K isn't really ideal because of the low refresh rate and high prices. I don't really know how much I'll be spending on them since it will take some time. Right now I'm looking for a decent 1080p 100+ Hz monitor for around 170 pounds.

Don't buy an RTX 2070 Super then - massive waste of cash.

By the time you own a monitor / VR kit worthy of it, it will be superseded by newer tech anyway.

The Genesis case is for budget office PCs and not at all a good match for keeping powerful gaming hardware cool.

The 9700 + B360 mobo gives you the worst of all worlds - a slowed, frequency locked CPU, that's still more expensive than the AMD alternatives, while performing little to no better and costing a lot more.

32gb RAM is pointless for gaming and not futureproof - you'll get 0 benefit from it for performance, and by the time games benefit from it, your PC will not because everything else will be obsolete instead.

Instead, buy this:

Thanks for the help! I'm doing some research on AMD processors right now, they seem to be a lot better than intel right now so I'm going with a ryzen 7 3700X. I'm not really sure about changing to a 2060, still considering it though.

2070 Super is entry level 4k gaming. Massive waste on 1080p. And also a waste if not buying a decent monitor until later because by the time you harness its horsepower, it will have been replaced with newer and more powerful options from both the red and the green teams, with newer / more mature versions of new technologies.

I run AAA titles high-ultra on my 2060 at 1440p, framerate capped to ~72, often running at capped with room on the GPU to spare. The Division 2, Witcher 3, Shadow of War that sort of thing. A 2060 Super would be great for 1440p.

Yeah the 2060 SUPER seems more like a better deal for my case, I was just concerned with future proofing the computer since I'm not really going to buy another pc for at least half a decade, I used to have a GTX 980 and an i7 4970k from 2015 and it lasted pretty well for ultra at 1080p 60Hz. I just wanted to make sure I would be able to play at a decent framerate in 1440p for that same ammout of time. As for the monitor, I had to look for one outside of pcspecialist because 144Hz 1440p monitors are not available, so I might be getting this one: Samsung LC27JG50QQUXEN 27-Inch WQHD Monitor - Dark Silver, I also needed a keyboard so thats basically a 1350 budget for the pc and monitor. I came up with this build after considering what you guys said:

Does that monitor have freesync? You definitely want one that does

Not sure, but I done a little more research and found this one: Acer KG271Ubmiippx 27 Inch WQHD Gaming Monitor, Black (TN Panel, FreeSync, 1ms, ZeroFrame, DP, HDMI).
Cheaper, definitly has free-sync and 1440p 144Hz.

The Acer KG271Ubmiippx is 1440p 75hz. This is why it's cheaper.

I wish they had clearer model names instead of alphabet soup... but that one is not what you're after.

I checked and the LC27JG50QQUXEN does not have freesync.

What about any of the ones I put on the list?

For most gaming there is very little difference between an R7 and an R5. If the R7 is squeezing your monitor budget too hard perhaps go to the R5?

I really need a good CPU because I work a lot with data science, so I really want the R7. I'm considering buying the EG 27" QHD 144hz 1ms Gaming Monitor as it fits the budget nicely, the only issue is that it is out of stock for now so I'll have to wait until the 9th to order it. Maybe there are 100+ Hz monitors out there? I don't necessarily need the 144Hz, just above 100 should do fine since the 2060 won't surpass 100 frames at 1440p anyways.

Oussebon

Multiverse Poster
Ah, not sure I knew about the data science thing :)

The only 100hz monitors I know of are 1440p ultrawide, which start at around £400.

The EG27" sounds like the way to go then. It;s only a week away and they let you preorder. Or wait a month or two if that would let you save up more for something in the £300-£400 range, if there are options in that range you'd prefer.

Apparently the Samsung S27R750Q (1440p, 144hz, VA panel) is only £250 and has freesync.

It has a very different kind of stand - a clamp stand, but perhaps that could be an advantage depending on your work/gaming space

That also does the job, a little more expensive but probably more reliable then the other one. I will consider buying it, thanks a lot!
