Just checking I haven't made any build Faux pas..

As someone who is a reasonably casual gamer and has literally zero knowledge about PC components, is this a reasonable build for someone making the transition from consoles?

(The smart thing would have been for me to ask this question before I actually purchased it, but I didn't know this forum existed 🙃).

Please be gentle..

Hi there. Unfortunately, I’ve got some bad news for you... have a read of the thread posted below...

The good news is that if you’ve just ordered it, you could easily cancel and do a complete rebuild with an AMD processor.

If you can let us know your budget, system uses (gaming, streaming, editing etc) and what monitor you’ll be using, someone will be able to jump on and help you spec a solid build 🙂👍

Thank you very much. Spending so much money on something I'm absolutely clueless about is a bit overwhelming and frightening 😅.

My budget is £1500 (Could be persuaded to go as far as £1600 if need be). I plan on buying a 27-inch, 144Hz monitor in the near future (and possibly will use my current 50Hz monitor as a 2nd screen). And the primary purpose will be for gaming.

I'm open to any and all advice :)

Spot on mate, thank you so much.

I've cancelled my order and will submit this once I get the refund. Thankfully, I am in no-rush. Would you say this build is reasonably future-proofed? I.e., I'll not need to upgrade for at least a few years?

Longevity? That was my master plan... the CPU is brand new and perfect for a gaming system, should last you the lifespan of the build. If not, the motherboard will support at least one more generation, potentially the next after that too. And the PSU is a beefy 850w, plenty for the current system and capable of taking a whole lot more of the next generation of GPUs have a higher power draw.

In theory, the main body of the build will last for the best part of a decade, the only thing you should really need to upgrade every few years to stay ‘current’ is the graphics card.

Great shout on the monitor suggestion by @Martinr36, it’s fast become a forum favourite and as he owns one, he can vouch for it 🙂👍
