Just set up Desktop from PCS, then attempted to upgrade RAM. Need some help.

Thanks again for the help everyone, especially Spyder.
I must say he was a big contributor to why I purchased from PCS.
(Not just the direct help to me, but he is helping out in almost every single thread. I don't know if he gets any type of discount or support from you guys but he really should).

Anyway,
I have a few questions now which hopefully won't be massive fixes.

(If you feel this is better as a new thread I'm happy to. I just think the previous comments give it context).

1 - When I made my purchase, I am sure there was a promo on to get the game monster hunter for free with the i7 chip.
(It was in coloured text beside the specs of the cpu).
Upon looking it up I no longer see anythnig about it on PCS, however its still on Intels website.

Apparently I need the master key or something, can anyone help with this?

2- I booted up the PC and everything is good, installed the OS etc.
However when I swap my ram from the preinstalled Corsair Vengance to the Patriot Blackout I have been running into issues.
Right now I am just looking for a general answer and ill get all the specifics up asap.

But essentially here is the described problem,
Whenever I boot the computer with the PVB ram, (Either single stick, or two correctly positioned for dual channel mode).
It takes 20/30 secs then there is an audible bios beep, it then takes me to a AMIBIOS Screen stating it looked in safe mode due to an error press F1 to continue.

After pressing F1 I am taken to the bios settings, I can save and exit and the computer boots as normal.

However what I did notice, is the bios still seemed set with the old ram in mind. (Lower voltage and lower frequency).
I have limited experience with these things so I won't pretend I understood half of it.
I tried changing the freq manually and setting to the voltage with the ram.

I'm just not convinced its done right. As I still get the single beep every boot. Even though all runs fine once I'm in windows.

Now, my handbook says one beep can mean one of 3 things. None of which seemed to be any problems. (VGA Detected etc).
But when searching online, apparently one beep means DRAM refresh failure
(https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm)

My experience with ram before now was very plug and play. Am I just missing something obvious that I should be doing to ensure my new ram works fine?

It is worth mentioning, I told the bios to return to default settings (mostly auto timings as opposed to set ram timings etc).

Doing this then allows my computer to go straight to the OS (After the delay and beep).
Ill need to check incase the default has disabled the "Press F1 on error POST" setting.

Again, general answers would be appreciated at the moment.

I went with the built last posted here by Spyder (Just different storage drives).

Thanks everyone!

A single beep is fairly typical of a passed BIOS check. My system would always beep when everything was all good.

With that being said, it should do so pretty quickly. A 30 second delay prior to getting onto loading Windows isn't right.

RAM is a bit more complex than it used to be thanks to the different profile of overclocked RAM (All RAM past 3200Mhz is OC).

You need to go into your BIOS and enable the XMP profile for the RAM. This should automatically configure it to the correct settings.

@Scott that's interesting. I didn't know that all RAM past 3200Mhz is OC.

Do I have to do the same for the RAM sticks that I got from PCS, or the slots that the new RAM is going to?

...I have been having issues with the RAM that I purchased from PCS as well...

thanks all

Initially it was 2133mhz, most over 2400mhz is OC with everything over 3200 definitely being OC :D

That's typically why the timing gets looser as the clock speed goes up. It's manufactured to a certain frequency/timing. In order to increase the frequency, you need to increase the timing.

With XMP & AMP turned off, you'll see what the default values of the RAM is. On my Laptop it's 2133, with 2400 being the XMP profile speed.

I've replied on your own thread.

I seem to have the ram issues sorted! Thanks for your help guys.

Anyone any idea about this "Master Key"? To claim the Intel game?
Excellent, how did you sort it?

With regards to the Master Key you would need to contact PCS to see what offers were applied for your transaction. Often the email gets sent out separately though, sometimes they will end up in your Junk mail.

Good job. yes please do tell how you got it all working.

I haven't had the chance to look at my issue yet so any info on it would be great!

Quite honestly it may have been dumb luck.

There was a lot of resets and I think it may have just been standard first few boots type of thing.

But the main thing I changed is, I set my bios settings to default. Then I manually set my ram speed, and enabled XMP2 in the overclock settings (though it's not specifically overclocking).

Initially I think the PCS guys set up my bios specifically for my ram. Probably tweaked it to perfection.

But obviously with new ram those settings didn't quite match.
So then it was just limited by the default setting.

After a few resets it boots as expected ( it still does do a single beep after POST but apparently that is standard of AMIBIOS). Even though all the documents state one beep is a ram error 😅.

Hopefully this helps, I can try and show specific settings later if it helps further.

Thanks

For most motherboards one beep is the POST beep and if that's the only beep then it means everything is ok :)
