Keyboard Key Broke

Heya all,

I got a problem with my W key not working properly and I think something broke under it because it doesn't even have that tactile feel anymore, and the key cap comes out of the key retainer.
I wonder If can order the key maybe from somewhere to replace it?w

It is a 17.3'' Defiance Series.

I found what the problem is too... The rubber cap underneath the key is damaged... And I guess I can't fix it, was planning to just switch the key cap with another that I don't use.

You need to log it with PCS, if they’re able to they’ll send a replacement keyboard for you to fit.

Some models have built in keyboards and those have to be returned to have the keyboard replaced, I’m not 100% sure if the defiance is one of those or not.

I've got a single keycap snapped off on a 14" Fusion six months old. No bashes or bangs, it literally just came off when I wasn't looking and won't go back on because the hinge on the back of the keycap has snapped off.

Keyboard is apparently so sensitive and parts so tricky to fit that the only solution is to replace the whole keyboard lock stock and barrel and that can only be done in a PCS laboratory. Four weeks!

Will be buying my next laptop from somebody else.

You'll find a lot of modern chassis have built in laptops, it's part of the "thin and light" movement. It's not particular to PCS at all.

I agree, on most of the thicker PCS laptops (like the Nova and Optimus) the keyboard can be replaced (they're actually the same keyboards, if you look closely). Not as easy as replacing RAM or storage, but still doable without sending it back.

It's pretty much the norm now for laptops to have non removeable keyboards, any apple products, dells, lenovos, they're all the same on the notebooks.

It's shaves off quite a bit of thickness of the chassis to have it inbuilt rather than modular.

One way to usually tell if you can possibly replace the keyboard on a laptop is look at the screws and fixings underneath - if any of them have a keyboard icon next to them, then usually it means you can unscrew and release the keys/keyboard to swap it out - if they dont have anything, then it is likely that the keys are part of the chassis.
