lafite windows 10

I ordered lafite laptop nad it is close to being dispatched to me. I'm going to install windows 10 by my myself, it's free for student of my uni here in Croatia. When I tried to find win10 drivers for lafite on pcspecialist.co.uk there were none. And when configurator asked what operating system I will install, I chose windows 8 because there was no windows 10 to choose. I know I'm supposed to get drivers with my order, but am not sure if I'll get ones for windows 10. If not, should I just install drivers for windows 8 or?

Firstly you cannot install Windows 10 on an laptop with no operating system. Currently, Windows 10 can only be upgraded from an already licensed copy of Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1. The only exception is if you buy a new laptop with Windows 10 already installed.

You will find that Windows 10 will install onto an empty computer but you will never be able to activate it. So much of the customisation will be unavailable and I suspect it will stop working after 30 days. You can only activate Windows 10 if it was installed on top of an already activated (i.e. licensed) copy of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. This means you must install a legal copy of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 before you can install Windows 10.

You will find all the available Windows 10 drivers for your build if you logon to your PCS account on the main site and click on the Downloads link under the Tech Support menu.

There are no Windows 10 drivers under Downloads in Tech Support menu, just drivers for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
Are you sure I cannot install Windows 10 that way? I downloaded Windows 10 from Dreamspark and made bootable USB.

No you can't. The free upgrade (which is what you've downloaded) must be installed from an activated Windows 7/8/8.1 system, otherwise it can not be activated. This is because it's a free upgrade, not a free operating system. So you have to have a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7/8/8.1 to be able to install and activate Windows 10.

As for drivers, there were no Windows 10 drivers for my Optimus IV on the PCS site either, but I upgraded if from Windows 8.1 successfully by allowing Windows Update to install all the drivers and then I manually installed the Windows 8.1 chipset and hotkey drivers (Windows Update can never provide those).

Err, what about people who just initially get a copy of W10. It'd be kinda silly buying or obtaining a full version of W10 only to have to go through the whole rigmarole of installing an earlier version of Windows.

We'd have to assume that this "student" version has it's own key.

As for the driver issue, just let Windows Update do it's thing, you'll probably end up not having to install any drivers for it to work. I tend to run off the old adage of "if it 'aint broke, don't fix it."

I got product key alongisde Windows 10, so I'm pretty sure it's free operating system and not just a free upgrade but we'll see, I'll let you know what happens

No. Windows 10 is not free, if you buy a new computer with Windows 10 installed you're paying for Windows 10 as part of the purchase price, you get a product key because you've paid for it. The free upgrade is only available to people already running licensed (and activated) copies of Windows 7/8/8.1.

I think however that as a student in various different places (don't know whether its all students or just some - just don't know) you can get a Windows OS for free (presumably subsidised by said university/government/whoever), I know I've seen it mentioned a number of times for Win7, Win8 and now Win 10 over the last couple of years.

My College has agreement with Microsoft and I can download a lot of different Microsoft products for free, including various Windows versions (7, 8, 8.1, 10), Microsoft Visual Studio, etc. I also get product key, license and everythin else needed. I installed Windows 7 and Windows 8 that way, and everything went well.

My College has agreement with Microsoft and I can download a lot of different Microsoft products for free, including various Windows versions (7, 8, 8.1, 10), Microsoft Visual Studio, etc. I also get product key, license and everythin else needed. I installed Windows 7 and Windows 8 that way, and everything went well.

Notice it says upgrade not full OS (its talking about the UPGRADE not full OS) you can get windows 10 from amazon now as a full standalone OS, this should be what the university if offering, and probably the pro version to as it can join domains

Yes but you have to buy it from Amazon. I confess I didn't spot the student reference in the OP, my mistake. Microsoft have always done student deals. For the rest of humanity you either have to buy a copy of Windows 10 (and you'll get a product key) or you upgrade from a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 (and you don't need a Windows 10 product key).
