Laggy Keyboard & Mouse - specific to my new PC

Hi All,

As above, I have a Logitech keyboard and mouse (wireless - I have no wired keyboards or mice anymore!) - MK330 set.

I got my new PC a few days back and have been using it quite happily for the last couple of days (very pleased actually, until now!). Suddenly the keyboard and mouse have become EXTREMELY laggy/non-responsive.

I have tried the following to no avail:

1) changed the batteries
2) reinstalled the drivers
3) unscrewed the aerials from the wireless card (don't ask why, seemed like something to try - I have a wired connection anyway)
4) unplugged all other USB devices from the PC and plugged the USB receiver directly into one of the top ports on the PC.

Nothing works!!

The keyboard/mouse/receiver are all fine - I've got them hooked up to my old Dell laptop now as I need to be able to get some work done today!!

This is so completely frustrating. Having wasted 1-2 hours already this afternoon messing about with the above, I thought I'd reach out for some help. I would try Live Chat but no one's available so wondering if any of you have some ideas?

My PC spec is below - note the NVidia GPU got upgraded to an 8GB AMD RADEON™ RX 580 - HDMI, DP - DX® 12 (in case that makes a difference???)

Thanks

Z

In my experience, Logitech make great hardware and rubbish software. I would uninstall all Logitech drivers and configuration tools from your PC. You should find that the mouse and keyboard will function using the basic Windows drivers. If you don't see the lagging then you'll know its a Logitech driver issue (which wouldn't at all surprise me).

Thanks @ubuysa I'll give that a go. STrange thing is that I didn't install the drivers to start off with, just plugged in the dongle and they worked fine. Its only when the lagging issue started (earlier this afternoon) that I thought about the drivers. Changed the batteries first and next step was to download drivers. I'll try uninstalling, once wired keyboard and mouse arrive tomorrow as the PC is pretty much unusable with the wireless setup as the keyboard misses about 1/2-2/3 of keystrokes, saves them up and then pukes them at the screen at some later time! Quite awkward with emails and Slack!

My only other thought is that I did buy and install the software for Logitech Z407 speakers a couple of days ago. I've got fed up with them already so will be returning as they are very intermittent and switch off at the most awkward of times (Zoom Board Meeting, for example!). I still had the lagging issue when I disconnected them but I wonder if the speaker software could be the cause...?

I'm not a Logitech software fan as you can tell (though I do have a Logitech vertical mouse, which is great). I'd want to eliminate their software first before looking further.

OK, I've removed the logitech software and then plugged in a Dell wired keyboard (of some vintage!)

The keyboard is still laggy - missing key strokes, catching up a few seconds later etc - I don't understand why...:(

Any ideas, anyone? If not, I'll queue for tech support tomorrow...

Have you definitely run ALL Windows 10 updates until such time as there are no more, not even any in the background running?

Have you installed any virus protection progs?

In that case I'd want to see a fully clean reinstall of Windows (deleting existing partitions) - you can use the Logitech keyboard and mouse - and allow Windows Update to install all drivers. Do not install any other software or make any configurations changes and then see whether the keyboard is still laggy.

I'm pretty sure PCS will want to see a clean install as well...

Thanks for all of the advice. In answer to your question @andjef796 on advice from here I asked for no AV as part of the build and then installed Bitdefender when I received the PC.

I've gone through the Windows 10 update (thanks @Nursemorph for the link and @ubuysa for the advice) and that seems to have fixed the problem!

I'm going to do more testing on it later today (as am working on my old laptop for the next few hours) but hopefully it stays fixed!

Thanks for all the advice, really appreciate it

Did someone on here advise you to install BitDefender then?

What was his name? He clearly needs..... umm.... re-educating! [emoji1787]
Actually I took that decision all by myself!

Having seen the advice against Bullguard on these forums, I searched for the best ranking AV program and found a number of positive reports on BitDefender. Having paid for it (yeah, only £22 but still) is there a reason I should give up on it? I wasn't aware of any issues with it...

We regularly have people with issues that can be traced to Bullguard. I've analysed a couple of BSOD dumps in the last couple of months that were Bullguard problems.

Windows Defender is all you need. It's comprehensive, fully integrated into Windows, and free.

You don't need to pay money for good Internet security any more. :)

Hi all, just wanted to give a bit of an update on this in case others are facing the same issue. Having uninstalled Logitech software and running all windows updates, and trying a wired keyboard, I had no joy.

I rang technical help - long wait as expected but I did get through to a very helpful chap who uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers. This fixed it for a bit but he did say that if the problem comes back then its most likely a motherboard problem.

Unfortunately the problem recurred after a day or two of use so I have returned the PC for repairs (fortunately still have my old laptop to keep me going). As you can see from my spec post above, its the Asus B550 motherboard.

Really hoping this sorts it out as, without this problem, the PC has been an absolute dream to use! So much better than my current 7th Gen i7 Quad Core.

As an aside, I was worried about only speccing the standard AMD cooler (although I did check with the helpdesk before finalising the build, as well as on here). In the time that I had been using I kept an eye on the temperature (via the standard AMD software) and it rarely got above 50C despite the box sitting under a desk around a metre away from a radiator. I'm not using it for heavy gaming, but I am taxing the processor with multiple spreadsheets and browser windows, and its coped great!

Hopefully it’s sorted but adding to this I had mouse and keyboard acting really strange and not responding or wrong keys being activated. I found that uninstalling asus rog gamer first internet control sorted it not even sure how it was messing with them but not had a problem since only noticed as it kept popping up in background when the problems occurred just a thought incase it does happen again

Shame you couldn't get it working but at least they can problem-solve and fix it.

On the cooler front: You are lucky that it is fine with the stock cooler (no idea what that cooler actually is in reality as the 5900x doesn't ship with a fan or anything). I just looked through the spec from when you were deciding and I believe that no mention of the stock cooler option was an oversight as most of us on here would automatically add something on it. That it is fine says a lot about the case it is in/...I have said quite a lot that it really should be priced nearer £100 given it's effectiveness.

Is the software you are using Ryzen Master? That one is the most accurate
Re the software, yes I think it is - its the software that came pre-installed on the machine...

So pleased I was advised to upgrade to this case as it has great airflow!
