Laptop needed for work and coding

Hi all

I'm looking for advice on what I would need in a laptop that will be used solely for working.

I really just want something that is able to process files quickly, as I'll be using it for coding in MATLAB and R. The data I want to process can be quite large so speed is a desirable factor.

Is what I want just a beefy processor with a good amount of RAM? I don't need to use the laptop for gaming or anything so a graphics card isn't a priority?

And are there any pre-builts on the site which might be best suited to this?

I would suggest a good processor, 12th Gen i7 or Ryzen 9, and likely 32Gb fast RAM.

No requirement for dedicated GPU which brings the cost down enormously.

I always like the Lafite Pro's as they're sturdy aluminium chassis, built well with good solid features.

What's the budget for this?

I hadn't really set a budget as hadn't really understood the components I'd need, but I suppose I'd like to keep it to £500 - £1,000.

It doesn't need to be lightning fast, as long as I'm not waiting around for lots of code to execute, so saving money where possible is also a big plus.

To get it within spec is gonna come just over that, your option is to drop the OS and source your own or carry one over from an old device, but this is where I wouldn't want to be under for any longevity and decent performance.

This is the older model of Lafite which has the previous gen CPU and weaker RAM and can only fit one SSD but of course, it's an option and does bring you close to budget. IMHO the trade off is not worth it for the price:
