Linux /Dual Boot on Recoil 16'' (Ionic 16'')

Hi,
I am interested in buying a Recoil 16'' (could also be an Ionic 16'') laptop and planning to implement a dual boot system on it with both Linux and Windows.
Has anyone tried to that, and were there any issues?
Also has anyone tried to install Ubuntu in one of these machines, since PC Specialist clarifies that they don't offer support for Linux I wonder if there are major issues with this OS.

This is the configuration of the laptop:

Hello,

I installed Ubuntu on an external SSD with the Recoil 17" laptop, featuring an NVIDIA RTX 4090. Everything is working smoothly. I did need to install a few drivers for the graphics card, but I even successfully managed to get the water cooling external device up and running. When the SSD is plugged in, it is booting on the SSD, otherwise it boot on windows.

The first installation was unsuccessfull tho, as grub bootloader was not installed correctly. I had also to remove the secure boot in the BIOS for some reasons.

My laptop is arriving tomorrow so I will start the installation process this weekend. I finally configured 2 SSD drives in case I need to install each operating system in a different physical drive. Let's see how it goes.

I have bough the Recoil 16' beginning of january and setup the dual boot without any issues. I also have 2 SSDs configured, one for Windows, one for Linux.

I am using PopOs as a distribution which is shipped with nvidia drivers. Works lika a charm without any driver issues.

For the dualboot I installed `reFINd` which is really nice and customizable. It's even possible to show a mouse to select the system to boot. There are a bunch of how-to's for refind on youtube (setup and customization).

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I ended up installing Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS as my primary OS in one drive and then Windows 11 home in the secondary drive. I configured the GRUB to recognize both Systems and had no issues in that sense. I could run both systems without major issues.

However after installing Windows updates, the sound in Ubuntu is presenting a lot of problems. Sometimes the sound just stops working after hearing a really loud sound and some cracking noise.
I reinstalled everything and all worked fine until I reinstalled Windows and updated it again. Then on the next restart the sound was broken as was before (only in Ubuntu).

This is the sound I keep hearing. Also some static noise sometimes:

I am looking for solutions but had no luck so far. Reinstalled alsa in Ubuntu.
If you have any suggestion I would really appreciate it.

UPDATE:
I have noticed that this problem happens when I:
1. Boot Windows
2. Restart computer
3. Boot Ubuntu

However it does not happen when I:
1. Boot Windows
2. Shut down the laptop
3. Start the computer again.
4. Boot Ubuntu

Hi @sithis ,
Do you have any tips on how to use the water cooler in linux. I have read the manual and I have seen there is some software necessary for it to run.

Hi @JavaChr1s , going through the manual I think the cooler can be operated without any software. I recommend contacting PC Specialist and ask them about the 2023 manual. They had sent me a previous version.

After some months and several problems and inestabilities I decided to migrate from Ubuntu to Linux Mint. This distribution is more stable in this machine and it even managed to launch Steam games. So my recommendation for Recoil 16 is Linux Mint 22
