Hi there,

Hope you're all staying safe during this time.

I'm looking to configure a PC that I would like to use to edit content in Adobe Premiere. I have had a look at the minimum specifications for doing this and I'm told I need a 6th Gen Processor of some type, I believe called Skylake??? Unfortunately Im not too handy with computers hence why I'm posting on this forum.

Also with this build I would like to use it for light gaming, possibly on games such as Rocket League or to that standard. I'm looking to get this PC on finance and price range on that would probably be below £100pm.

Many thanks,
Braden

PCS only sell brand new systems. 6th gen CPU’s are about 5 years old.

for a custom PC very entry level you’d be looking at a budget of around £700 just for the PC.

Even second hand you won’t find anything for £100 it’s just not possible.

The OP said £100 per month - you can get a cracking PC from PCS for £100pm.

Ah, totally missed that, thank you!

Sorry OP, what’s the overall budget for the PC? We don’t get a monthly breakdown just the overall cost.

Hi there,

Thank you all for the quick responses.

Yes, anything less than £100pm or about £800 overall would be fantastic! The cheaper the better haha. I have just tried to configure my own and it came to around £40pm, but again I dont really know what I'm selecting haha.

Are you looking for everything? Monitor and peripherals or is this for the monitor only?

With regards to the £100 per month, I'm guessing this is on finance? £100 per month is a HUGE system to be honest..... but you pay it over a long period of time. I believe there is an interest free option where you can pay inside 12 months. Is this what you are looking to do?

It's very difficult to ascertain exactly what you are after without some specifics on what you need.

So....

If we set the budget at £1200 for starters? (100 per month for 12 months)

What resolution are you looking to work at?
Do you require a monitor and peripherals?

The following ignores the £1200 limit but stays well within the £100pm finance option...

This would be the ideal for your workloads and uses. It includes a monitor, as there is a great deal on this monitor at the moment and it's a bit larger than the norm which will be great for editing.

It's food for thought. £56pm

Hello,

Thanks for the response!

Apologies for the late reply, Yes I will probably need a Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard (forgot about those haha). The specifications you have recommended look great to me, would there be anyway to make it a little cheaper in at all or would that be the lowest we could go?

Many thanks,
Braden

You can.... of course, but each down-grade has it's own level of impact so you need to be aware of it.

CPU - You can downgrade this to the 3600 to save money. This would be less powerful and the rendering tasks would take longer to do. Photoshop would likely have minimal impact but anything regarding multi-core processing would take a hit.

Motherboard - You can drop to the B450 motherboard. The X570 allows stability for the next generation and also allows for PCIe 4.0. The X570 is almost a guarantee for the next generation of chip and the VRMs will support just about any level. The B450 will likely support the socket but the VRMs aren't as good (Voltage Regulator Module - Important for stability and boost clocks)

GPU - You could get away with the 1660 Super if you're not big on effects for your video and you are willing to dial the gaming settings way down. The 1660 is a 1080P card, the 2060 is more aimed at 1440p.

Storage - You could drop the 2nd M2 drive if you are happy to run without a cache drive. The cache drive can make a huge difference to scrolling through video when editing etc. This is especially true with larger projects where the RAM has been filled. I've only selected 16GB of RAM so the cache drive would likely come into play often.

PSU - It's a high end PSU. You could drop the model down but keep the wattage. The TXm is always worth it IMO, better warranty, more premium components, semi-modular and runs almost silent.

Cooler - If you dropped the CPU down to the 3600 you could remove this altogether. If you wanted to stick with the 3700X it's recommended to keep you in the peak boost clocks during renders but if you were happy to run with a bit less performance you could lose this altogether. The AMD coolers are decent at what they do, the additional cooler is more to aid heatsoak and boost performance.

There's nothing else I would really consider.

Okay, I will take all of those options into consideration. I really do appreciate the help you are giving me whilst in this process.

In terms of Monitors, Keyboards and a Mouse. Could you recommend any that would be cost effective for me? I may still potentially purchase the hardware from a 3rd party but it would be useful to have options. I have seen you have already selected a monitor for me so I will review that one and check it out before I go ahead but if you have any more options for me that would be great.

Again I really do appreciate this.

Many thanks again,
Braden

The one I recommended is just the best value that I've seen. It has freesync etc as well.

Past that, the budget is going to increase unfortunately. They're normally £300 plus.

For the keyboard and mouse, I would just go with whatever ones look good to you without going crazy with the cash. The ASUS CERBERUS package is often popular :)

Here is an excellent guide for monitors:

Any reason why it has to be Intel, the way things are you will most likely get a much better machine with an AMD Ryzen CPU.

Is there anything wrong with @Scott build above? You won't do any better than that for the budget.

Nothing wrong with it really.

I was just speculating my options, I've always used Intel in my machines. Also after getting a 3rd person verdict on the build, I do feel it is a little overkill for what I require. I need to run Adobe Premiere and I need to use it for Light purpose gaming (e.g Rocket League or Minecraft)

Cheers

We just build the best for the budget. But AMD are far superior than intel now and for the foreseeable future in multithreaded workloads.
