Looking for advice on new PC build for gaming please!

Hi all,

I'm planning to buy my first desktop gaming PC, and I need some advice on what to get. I will mainly be playing games like Helldivers 2, Sniper Elite 5, Ready or Not, and Cities Skylines 2, as well as general web browsing.

I have no peripherals, but I'd like a 24" monitor, so I'm thinking of buying an AOC 24G4 monitor.

For the rest of the build, not including the monitor, my budget is about £2000.

What's your budget for the monitor as combined with the PC budget you should be able to get a 1440p system which would be substantially better than the 1080p monitor you have planned which is just terrible by modern standards

For £350, you could get a 1440p display like this one. It's 27", which is really the sweet spot for 1440p gaming.

Hi all,

Thank you very much for the advice, I was a bit worried that a 27" monitor would be too large for my desk, but after thinking about it I've decided to try it, so I've ordered the 27" monitor recommended. If it works and is comfortable to look at, then I will look into buying a PC similar to the rest of the recommended build.

I'd just like to get a second opinion on this:... I will need to connect to the internet wirelessly as I don't have a LAN / ethernet connection. I already have a TP-LINK - Archer T3U USB Wireless Adapter - AC 1300, Dual-band that I could use. Would this be good enough?

Or would it be worthwhile to add a wireless network card to the build? as they seem to be only up to £33

Also I have one other question. I got the MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2 27 as a monitor, do I need to purchase speakers for the build? As I'm not sure if there are any inbuilt speakers / audio in the monitor or in any other part of the PC other than the audio jack sockets for headphones.

If you want decent sound, then you’ll need speakers, as most monitors have very basic speakers if any (the one you have doesn’t have any).

What speakers you buy will depend on what budget & space you have…assuming you’re not going to play with headphones on all the time.

I use a pair of cheap Pebble v3 USB speakers…

But have used powered micro monitors in the past too.

I’m sure others on here will have lots of options for you if you provide a budget.

I just plug my pc into my music system, in case you have a system already. You can either use something like a mini jack from the PC to 2 x phono on the amp.

Thanks but unfortunately I don't have a music system

Just looking at speakers now, I think I will get the Logitech Z200 2.0 speakers as they seem OK.

I use a Google Home Mini as the PC speaker. It's not great, but I'm usually on headphones anyway. But in case you have a Nest Audio or any other bigger Bluetooth speaker, could be an option as well. Wifi speakers (without bluetooth) could also be an option if they happen to have plugs for analog audio in.

Not having any any kind of musical playback doesn't compute in my brain.

Is that possible? How does one function in that way? Is there a guidebook somewhere?

Can't say how it works with other bluetooth speakers, but with Google/Nest ones it's just a matter of telling it to pair a new bluetooth device, then pair it to your PC using windows bluetooth pairing (just like with any headphone) and it becomes your speaker. Simple as that.

Even the windows volume up/down does make the bluetooth speaker volume change (can see the LED lights blinking to show the difference every time).

It was aimed at the OP saying they didn't have any speakers or system at all.

I don't think I could function without any kind of music playback form in my life.
