Hi folks,
Can anyone give me some advice or please point me to a section where I might find guidance.
Firstly, for background, I am not a gamer nor a video editor.
The reason for me "over-specing" my planned new kit is that I have found it a good or better longer term strategy - for me at least. Therefore I have in the past bought the 2nd most powerful processor, fast and plenty of memory, and I was an early adopter of SSD internal C Drive. I also believe you cannot have TOO much storage space. My current 5yr old machine is starting to make some odd noises so thought I need to update (even though I find Win 10 a bit of a dog and hate it).
Anyway, back to the question.
The guts of my new machine will be a AMD 3900x on an ASUS Crosshair V11 Hero (the motherboard is relevant). Nothing special in the way of a graphics board.
However I want to put an M2 Seagate 2Tb Firecuda S20 Gen 4 as the C drive. So far nothing unusual apart from the price. The extravagant bit of the plan is that I want to install a 2nd M2 Seagate 2Tb Firecuda S20 Gen 4. The idea of this is to have some REALLY fast storage for some of the larger files (video etc) that can otherwise take a long time to save to an ordinary HDD - and I want to keep Op System/programs etc separate from the file storage. The less frequently accessed files will be moved in due course to a Seagate 6Tb Ironwolf or Barracuda for longer term storage – almost like an internal Backup (I’ll backup externally too) As you gather I believe you can’t have enough storage!
What does anyone think about this off-the-wall and £2700 idea!. (yes I am bonkers)
From what I can see, the ASUS Crosshair can take 2 x M2 memory drives. Would the setup handle 2 x M2 drives in practice, and finally, how do I indicate on my order that I want the 2nd M2 drive as there is nowhere on your order form to add it.
Any input appreciated - thanks
Steve
