Make sense or not?

What is your budget and what programmes will you be using? This will need some work to make it suitable for your needs.
Budget around £1000 to £1500. I'll be using mainly (Microsoft) Office programmes, photoshop (equivalent), backup software (non-Microsoft), various utilities, fitness software etc.

Thanks for your input, but I think that's definitely overkill. My budget was an estimate not a target. My current PC has nothing like that spec and although it's struggling with multitasking it's not grinding to a halt (yet!). Not sure why I need 12GB memory on the video card and 2.5 TB internal storage seems very excessive - I believe the OS drive for Windows 11 only requires 256GB and I already have about 15TB in NAS and external USB drives so the internal 1TB SSD should be ample. Since I'm not intending to do any gaming, why do I need a gaming case and a gaming motherboard? I'm willing to be corrected on any of the points made, it just seems a little overspecced for my requirements.

Perhaps you should have specified that you wished to stay at the bottom end of the budget… or just given us a lower budget?

The 3060 has a great amount of VRAM which is extremely beneficial for video editing, one of the tasks you stated that the system would be used for. Having extra space on the OS drive allows it to remain snappy in day to day operation. Even the fastest NVMe drives will slow down when they start to fill up. You also didn’t tell us about the storage you already had, you can’t expect users to read your mind.

The case can be changed to something else if you wish, it’s just a proven case with good airflow. The case you had chosen is very much at the budget end of the scale and is essentially a sealed box. If you’d like a case that’s a little more discrete, the Corsair 4000D is a good bet. The motherboard choice could be altered to the non-gaming variant as you’re unlikely to be dabbling in any overclocking, but if you do consider an AMD build, don’t go lower than the B550. The B450 is cheaper but is a dead platform.

A budget is th maximum that you're willing to spend, and we'll configure the best we can up to that budget. For your uses, it can scale as high as you want, each tier just improves the rendering times and effects processing in photoshop.

If you're not happy spending this much then have a think about your actual budget.

Also, you're not factoring in performance as it will be now, but how it's going to hold up over a 7 to 10 year lifespan. Tech has moved on considerably even over the last 3 years, and it's continuing at a crazy pace.

"Gaming" is branding. It doesn't actually affect performance or give any features. With both case and motherboard, what you're seeking to do is to allow the other components room to do perform at their best. With a motherboard, that's about voltage regulation and the cooling for the voltage regulation. With a case, it's about airflow for cooling purposes. Both of the components @Bigfoot recommended are super options for making the most of the rest of the machine.

Video editing machines and gaming machines have much in common in terms of hardware requirements; the gaming market is much bigger, so most components are marketed towards it.

For video editing and so on, the VRAM will be beneficial. I would also say it can be worth going into overspec mode, there is an element of future proofing to be sought when going for a new machine. I'm a firm believer of buying a PC with my head 2-3 years in the future, and spec it accordingly. Yes, it stings financially, but at least I am good into the future. And with a PC, too much is ALWAYS better than too little.
Just my tuppence on the subject.
