I made this thread a while back where I embarrassed myself by revealing that my brain is stuck in 2008 where 1080p is awesome, anything higher than 60fps is unnecessary, didn't know that gaming monitors existed and thought decent gaming PC's still cost £1,000.

Well I'm back, I bought this monitor and have around £2,000 to spend. Like in the previous thread, already got all peripherals.

That's a super monitor. You can get a lot for that money, though it's not a "no compromise" price!

Here's where I'd start...

Case
FRACTAL FOCUS 2 ARGB GAMING CASE (BLACK) Solid case
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-5.5GHz/40MB CACHE/AM5) Current gen CPU. Not the absolute greatest, but that adds £150 (the 9800X3D)
Motherboard

GIGABYTE X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) Current gen motherboard (you can save a bit by going last gen with the Tuf B650 and not lose much)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
16GB XFX RADEON™ RX 7800 XT QICK 319 - HDMI, 3 x DP I'd prefer something a little stronger, but this is the top of the price range you can realistically get
1st M.2 SSD Drive

512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) Boot drive

When I click the link it says £1,880 including VAT, not £1,954.

The main game I have in mind for this PC (although there will obviously be others) is STALKER 2, which I hear is very heavy on the CPU due to having such an enormous open world. I'd be willing to pay the extra £150 for the 9800X3D if it's a significant upgrade, but that really would be the limit for what I'm able to spend (without going into debt, which I'm just not willing to do lol).

Edit - actually the one you already made (without the extra £150 on the processor) already quite far exceeds the recommended specs for Stalker 2. Seems like it would probably be unnecessary and I might be better using that leftover cash on something else.

I would never go by recommended specs, that's a baseline to allow for people on older generations to be able to play, but that won't be great performance.

The CPU simply unlocks further performance from the GPU, in a CPU heavy game, you want as fast a processor as possible.

You also have to account that a game like this will go through updates and DLC further down the line and you want to be future proofed for that.

9800X3D is a VERY worthwhile investment if your budget can stretch.

Spend £1400 on a "meets the minimum spec" build and you can look forward to spending another £1400 in two or three years. Spend a little more and you get a really good experience now and a much longer lifespan and, ultimately, much better value for money.

I just wouldn’t be buying a system this late into the product lifecycle unless you absolutely have to.

The value across CPUs and GPUs is so inflated, it just makes zero sense to buy now, and they won’t address any of this until after Christmas as factories basically stop production over December so prices are only going to increase.

When would be the best time then you think? January maybe? Because I don't mind waiting a bit more. It'll give me a bit more time to save another £200-£300 for a better processor/graphics card, and the one game I'm actually wanting to play (Stalker 2) has only just released and is full of bugs and optimization problems, so waiting another month or three is no problem for me.

New GPUs are being announced first week of january, that’s when we’ll know more. I expect the 5090, 5080 and 5070 will be released in the following weeks, maybe a month.
