so the next question is how do I set it to peaceful?
I'm also having problems finding coal, in the last few times I have played, I have not found any trace of coal, so I can't make torches to light my way when I'm underground, which is limiting how deep I can go.
I end up having to brick myself into a little hole when the night comes before I can try again elsewhere. is there any real tactic/tip to finding coal deposits?

When i first played this after i saw the video, I thought man this is rubbish, you cant do anything and I cant find a way to dig further then these blocks. However after thankfully reading your post I have given this a second attempt, and now im hooked! Cant wait to get home from work tomorrow to play on it some more aha.
I just had 2 hours solid on the game, and I can't believe how quickly the time passed. it only seemed like I was playing for about 20 minutes. I only realised how long I'd been playing up until this point because I glanced at the tv and saw the clock on the bbc news channel.
had I not had the tv on, I could have probably been playing for several hours still.
I still don't know how to cook the meat I have collected. anyone know what I have to do to cook it? also, is there any way of making more storage, my inventory is almost full

Yes, ok, put planks all the way round the 3x3 grid in ur workbench for a chest, make 2 and place side by side.
Coal - Usually in dark tunnels, near ur respawn, on cliff edges
Cook meat - stove, again this time put stone all way round the 3x3 for stove, place coal under. btw u can eat piggy meat raw
