Monitors

FWIW I just picked up my 1080ti this week. I use an OLED to game at 4k @ 60hz. For me it is a great experience and the TV although expensive has very little lag, unlike my old plasma. I found the fan on the Seahawk quite loud and when ordering replacement ones, I 'accidnetly' picked up a Predator XB241YU monitor. It is beautiful, 1440p at 165hz and Gsync. The Ti works great with it.

I've had no issues with SLI, other than when a WoW update briefly broke it - but it's not even officially supported in that game, and they still fixed it. I've found SLI to give substantial benefits even in Attila Total War where SLI support was officially withdrawn. GTX 670 SLI was pretty much as good as my 970 in W3 even with hairworks, from the brief play I did with that. I'd still go with a single GPU solution where that's viable of course, as I fully recognise that my experience doesn't match everyone's.

It's worth keeping the option for SLI open. Plus future games may make less use of SLI and CF and instead use the DX12 multi GPU feature.

I suppose in theory there's no reason you couldn't add a 2nd, air-cooled, GPU alongside your liquid one, assuming the tubes aren't in the way.

This is a small factor, but I thought I'd mention it - with ultra-wide, your resolution is still based on 1440p, so you will probably find yourself using a bit more AA than with 4k. So while the resolution is less demanding, you may lose a bit of that extra performance anyway through combatting the jaggies.

Also that monitor that Spyder has used to be over £500, then recently was £450, and now apparently is £400. But I still can't afford it. My jealousy meter is therefore about to explode ;)

I wish I could go bigger. However the one I got was the biggest that could physically fit in my little cubbyhole.

I had SLI before and I never had issues with it. The reason for considering the X34A was for the higher fps it seems I can get(no idea about AA).

I have no clue of whether I will be able to add a 2nd gpu or not. I could ask PCS (sent lots of emails so far but were promptly answered) as by the time I get it would be too late to change. Having a 2nd gpu is tempting and I could afford it but not quite ready to justify it. A 1440p monitor will definitely allow me to take advantage of the single gtx 1080 ti for longer but may not be a good idea. Choices and choices.
As an additional comment, titan Xp is available to order from the nvidia website. Worth the extra money if performance is significantly better? After spending more than £1000 i won't be able to find value for money with any choice.

My given choice would have been the XB321HK, perfect size at 32" for 4k, anything below is like buying below 27" for 1440p, just makes everything a little difficult to make out. It's Acer who personally I've had a lot of success with and given what I've read about Asus quality control, I'd always choose Acer over Asus even though the panels may not be quite as high quality.

99% of the reviews I've read for the XB321HK are glowing, it's probably the most popular 4k Gsync display about at the moment. Amazon and Debenham's Plus seem to be the best price at the moment around £770 - £800, Ebuyer is just under £800 which may be more appealing for support.

There's a good review at Tom's hardware here:

Appreciated the feedback. I ended up going for the X34A, it was £723 from very.co.uk (20% off from £899). It was a good deal and cheaper than the XB321HK. Hope I won't regret it.

It's a great screen, I think you'll be very happy with it, and will certainly mean you won't have to update graphics for a long while.
