Hello everybody, I have been getting loads of help from you guys.i had a strict budget of £1300, I wanted a gaming laptop that was going to give me a great gaming experience (I'm a ex ps3 owner so long as I get equal visuals ect I will be happy to have a portable system that can do that)..so hopefully the advice you guys have given me will give me this. Let me know what you think of my machine can anyone give me any ideas of what levels I will be able to play games on... Skyrim bf3 ect

Equal visuals to a PS3 won't be an issue *cough*

A great spec, but i would urge you consider dropping your CPU down to a 2670QM and choosing the Radeon 6990M over the Geforce 560M.

This brings the total to around £1340, but for going over your budget by only £40 you will experience up to an 80% performance increase while gaming with the 6990M over the 560M.

Plus take it from me, my friends playing BF3 in 30 fps 720P with medium setting equivalent on their PS3's were very impressed with my laptop (almost identical specs to yours) playing the game in 1080p ultra presets at 40 fps.

As dangro said you are paying a very high premium for a very small boost in CPU performance. For gaming you should be throwing money at the GPU at every possible opportunity.

The 560m should match a ps3 quite easily, the 6990m would be a nice upgrade but not needed if you only want to match a ps3 for detail levels.

Done it guys. Dropped to 220 ghz and upped graphics to Amd 6990 Will this give me a better config ?

Lol. I'm impatient but I think this is worth waiting for. It's all ordered and payed for let's just hope they have all the components. I'm new to all this high powered tech just hope I don't get any major problems

Aceface, your laptop will perform either on par with or slightly faster than mine. With that in mind, if you are happy with 30+ FPS, look forward to playing all of the latest games in maximum settings 1080p

I would compare a Geforce 555M performance to that of a PS3 (BF3 medium settings 1280x720 @30 fps)

Regarding PS3 performance vs laptop gaming performance etc...

The hardware in a PS3 is complete garbage, equivalent to say a Geforce 7800 GT (2004 GPU)... however as games are coded specifically for its hardware, those games will perform a lot better than their PC equivalent using a similar level of hardware.

The Geforce 560M is unmeasurably superior to a PS3.

As mentioned before, the 6990M will give you a big boost in performance over the GTX560M. However it will run slightly hotter too, so if you intent to play games with it sitting on your lap then I would recommend getting a laptop cooler too.

One way to find out whether any of the components are in short supply is to start amending the order to add Fast Track processing -- presuming it's available as an option. If you try to proceed with FT included, you'll either be told there's no problem or you'll be told what's not readily available. At that point you can back out of the amendment process and leave your order unaffected.
