My First Gaming PC!

I am looking to buy my first PC with a budget of £1200 MAX which I will use for gaming and University work which could involve using VM's. Games I will be playing are Rocket League, CSGO, COD and GTA. I will have a 2 monitor setup with the monitors being the:

Acer Nitro VG220Qbmiix 22 Inch Full HD Gaming Monitor (IPS Panel, FreeSync, 75 Hz, 1 ms, HDMI, VGA, Black/Red)​

You can find this on amazon.
I don't really know what graphics cards and CPUs would be best but I just want a smooth gaming experience and work environment.

If there is any changes I should make please let me know.

Hi there! When it comes to CPU Choice, AMD are leading in just about every category over Intel these days, so I've gone for an AMD build instead. I'll also preface this by saying I'm not too sure what's needed to run a VM so have focused on the gaming side of things and I'm sure another member would be happy to point in the right direction if something needs changing to suit this need.

For case, the P209 is a budget one, so I've gone for the Corsair 4000D, it's a fantastic case and with the addition with some fans it has the opportunity for great airflow. For CPU, I've gone for the 3600, this is now a previous generation but still not a bad CPU for gaming. That said, if you're able to save/ spend another £100 or so and get the 5600X, I'd highly suggest it. There's been a huge leap between the two generations and you'd get a lot more performance from the 5600X. For that CPU, you'll want the TUF B550 motherboard to match. For GPU, to match the monitors you have, I would've gone for the 1660, but the 1660 Super is weridly cheaper, so seems like a no brainer to me. For storage, there's now a 1TB SSD meaning you'll have much more space for windows and apps and you'll also be able to get some of your games on there for much improved loading times. Then I've kept the 1TB drive for general files. For PSU, I've gone for a nicer TXm750W unit. This is an overspec for this current build but it'll allow the PSU to run more comfortably therefore extending the life, plus if yo decide you want to upgrade, you'll be able to get in most GPU's (everything bar 3080 and 90 + AMD equvalents) without needing to swap out the unit. The stock cooler will do a perfectly fine job for the 3600 plus it's a good way to save some cash. If you need WiFi, the AX200 is a no brainer as is the Silver warranty for a fiver. All this comes in at a slither over your 1.2K budget!

If you already have a PC or laptop that will be unused after this unit arrives, a good way to save on budget is to transfer the Windows license. It's a fairly easy process these days and that'd save about £100 that could then be spent on upgrades (namely that 5600X ;) ) as you're not needing to buy a new license

A note on monitors: Are these monitors you already own or are ones you're looking to purchase? If it's the latter, I'd like to suggest a slightly different layout on how you spend the money for what would be a more enjoyable experience. If you already have them, not to worry.

Welcome ;) I don't like an idea having 22inch monitor - it's a very strange size - is there a particular reason apart the budget? (small desk etc)

I'd definitely get an AOC 24G2U which is a better monitor and a standard 24inch size, which would be the smallest I would suggest to look at. https://www.box.co.uk/AOC-24G2UBK-23.8-Full-HD-IPS-FreeSync-_2766293.html I know, pricier, but 22 inch is small, in my opinion.

Everything else in your build looking nice, I would just drop Bullguard antivirus as it make more troubles. Better is to use an built-in Windows Defender or get another antivirus.

If you won't use your old machine, I would suggest to back up files and transfer a Windows licence from old PC to a new one as explained in the below link. That would save you some money for a monitor.

Transferring digital windows 10 license to new machine

Hi all Quite a few people already have a windows 10 License which they want to transfer over to the new PC. Windows 10 now makes this easy, even if you have an OEM license, you can legitimately turn it into a "digital license" by tying it to your microsoft account, and then transfer it legally...

My desk is small hence the reasoning for the 2 22inch monitors rather than the 24 inch which I would prefer.
I am unsure about transferring my windows license from my laptop as of now as I don't know what I will be doing with the laptop.
The games I will be playing will be COD, CSGO, Rocket League and GTA. I'll also be running VMWare as well for uni work.

5600X will do a good job here (y) But I'm not sure about a GPU and monitor if you want a better gaming experience. For gaming the sweet spot is 1440p 27-32 inch nowadays, 4K being premium. Myself have just a 24inch, bought last year, but already thinking it's quite small and saving for a 1440p 27-32 inch monitor and GPU.

If you're in a position to get a new desk and place it in the room, then I'd get 24, 27 or 32inch, depending on budget. Otherwise, 22 inch make sense, even though it really doesn't take much less space comparing to 24 inch. And two screens won't work together as extended, as far as I know - only 1 or 3 monitors. Two would be just two separate screens - one for gaming and another for browsing, movies, music while playing. I personally use tablet for that.

Just to be clear, every case is individual and I believe you'll choose what's best for you, just thinking out loud for the possibilities :)

Thank you for your help, the annoying thing is that the 22 inch monitors would just fit on the desk and I don't have space for a bigger desk. So I think I am forced to go with the 22 inch. Also, I am wanting 1 monitor for gaming and 1 for general use so that's not a problem. As for the GPU I don't know if the 1660 Super is good for gaming or not. Do you have any idea if it will be fine or any suggestions?

The lower the resolution, the more game rely on CPU, while the better the resolution, the more it needs GPU power. In your case 5600X is a very good gaming CPU and 1660 is an ok GPU. More better FPS (FPS = monitor's Hz - lower the graphic setting in game from high to medium and you'll get better FPS). Your monitor Acer Nitro VG220Qbmiix is capped to 75 Hz so you will never get higher than 75 FPS with it. 1660 GPU looks good as monitor will bottleneck.

I quickly looked up the FPS and even with 1660 Ti (which is slightly better than a regular 1660)+ 5600X for GTA V gives 90 FPS. Meaning 1660 GPU is good to go. 1660 Super would give something similar to Ti, just a bit less.

I'm still confused about your desk: what it's length and width? 24 or 22inch, it's just a screen size while the standing part I think should be same dimensions.

Tbh, its hard to see if the 24 inch would fit on my desk as there is lots of stuff on it right now. I think I will clear it so I can see what it will actually be like but the desk is 105cm x 50cm.

Before buying this PC, will it be the most suitable build for my price range (£1200) and to max out my monitors' performance? I have 2 monitors which are these:

I will be using this for general use and for gaming so want to make sure it will perform.

The 1660 Super will manage about 120fps at 1080p, the fact it’s 2 monitors is irrelevant as you’d only be using one for gaming, you could just buy a normal 60hz secondary monitor and save some money and get exactly the same experience. Then you could have put the money towards a 3060 which would have given a far more valuable experience.

The case is not suitable though, I’d suggest the fractal focus G which is the best budget case.
