My New Vulcan S 01

Hello everyone,

I recently received my new gaming PC and below is a quick review. I kept it brief as my gaming addiction has just gone up a gear...
I ordered the Vulcan S 01 review system, (called Brian, after the DPD guy that delivered it) (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/files/medley/vulcans01.pdf) and paired it with a Dell S2716DG 27" monitor. The colour scheme I am going for is black and green (pictures below).

A quick run over the specs;
Display - 27" Dell S2716DG (1440P)
Motherboard - ASUS® TUF Z370-PLUS GAMING
CPU - I7 8700k
GPU - GTX 1080
RAM - 2x 8gb (3000mhz)
Cooling - Corsair H100i V2
Storage - 1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA (7200rpm) & 250GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2.

I use the PC for heavy gaming sessions and streaming. I use it to play WOW, Overwatch and Fortnite, maybe even the odd AAA.

All I can say is, what a beast. Everything I ever wanted. Streaming and gaming is done effortlessly and the aesthetics are just unreal. I've always gamed on a laptop, until now!

Ratings-
Graphics - 10/10
Fan Noise - 9/10
Build Quality - 10/10
My happiness level - 10/10

I am absolutely delighted with it. The customer service and aftercare provided by PCS is by far the best I've experienced.

If any of you have any other questions about it, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. I hope this helps anyone looking to invest in a new rig from PCS.

This desktop was purchased not long after my Defiance V laptop, for gaming on the go. (Good first impressions go a long way... Ive blown almost £4000 in a month!!!) - Review here, https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?59554-Defiance-V-review

Massive thumbs up from me though!! Thanks PCS and thanks to Oussebon & SpyderTracks for helping me with my decisions!!

Looks very nice, clean setup there too :)

I think the system has the CPU cooler fans intaking from the side that looks pretty close up against the wall. If the temps are okay I'm sure it's fine, but just worth being aware of. It's always possible it makes the CPU fans work a bit harder and therefore louder. Not sure there'd be a solution other than shuffling the desk a couple of inches left anyway.

You are correct about the intake fans and I will keep that in mind. No issues at the moment, temps are amazing and the fan noise is minimal. If I do start to see an increase in temps I will probably pull the desk away from the wall a bit.

How are you finding the screen? I love it, both aesthetics and performance.

Screen is phenomenal, better than I expected for the price. Can't fault it and fits my set up perfectly. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm on 8th working day for Pre-production for this exact baby. How long did it take for you to get it? And I take it FPS in gaming has gone up a few notches..? :)

Can't wait for mine, I'm getting goosebumps!

Mine arrived after 10 working days so hopefully yours wonÂ’t be too much longer! You will not be disappointed, IÂ’m absolutely loving mine! Gaming in general is just a different world now!

Let us know how you get on when it arrives!

All (non-Fast Track) PCS builds spend about 95% of their time in either processing or pre-production. As soon as they move into build they're built and tested usually in two days and shipped on the third. It's terrible wait, we've all done it, but it's worth it... :)

Thanks for the replies guys, hope mine is on its way soon. :)

I'm moving a few parts from my old PC to this new one - 120GB SSD and a 1TB WD HD (which I may change for a 3-4TB one soon). I was also wondering if this motherboard would also take another M.2 drive, and how easy in general it is to add the components I mentioned?

Cheers!

The manual tell you everything you need to know - the positioning of the M.2 slot i.e. whether it's tucked away behind the graphics card - what M.2 configuration conflicts with use of what Sata ports.

That might make it sound complicated, but it's not really, the manual is fairly plain in that regard. Have a look at it and see how you get on maybe and post back with your findings? You can find it on the product page on the Asus site.

You may want to make a new topic since otherwise Lee's review will turn into your upgrade topic :)

Although looks like you don't have much room for the mouse though :sweatdrop:

I remember when I bought my Defiance - although I'd fast-tracked it, it got delayed due to testing issues (partly down to being one of the first to use Windows 10 and partly down, as it turns out, to faulty hardware).

It felt interminable.

Ultimately worth the wait though :)

Thank you! I recently upgraded my keyboard and mouse to Corsair Strafe and Skimitar which has freed up a couple more CM however I am limited on space at the moment. The joys of having a child.... that steals your gaming room... I’ll post a new picture soon to show you. I went a bit mad on Amazon Prime day...

That being said, after using the space for a good couple of weeks now, I have no complaints! If anyone is interested, I’ll be taking part in my first live stream this evening from 19:00! Pop in and say hi! twitch.tv/loggerheadtv
