hey, my order arrived today, number 383844.

the two issues i have are:

1. i have the inwin maelstrom case(fanqua is its proper name) the big fan on the side of the case does not move and seems to either be broken or is not connected.

2. after fully installing my operating system and drivers i cannot get sound over hdmi or that blue cable for monitors i can never remember the name of. I am having to use speakers that plug into the rear 3.5mm jack atthe moment.

any help that can be offered would be hugely appreciated.

Hi Soupsoup,

When my machine arrived x1 fan was not spinning and this was due to a wire in the way stopping it, you could check this.

For the sound via HDMI i had to go into control panel, sound section, manage sound devices and make the device the hdmi is connected to the default sound device, mines connected to 42" tv, so just right click set as default and voila .....

Hope this helps, if so give me my first rep point please ?????

thanks for the input dark, using lung power i can rule out anything blocking the fan. also my backup for thinking it has not been connected is that the led on the fan does not light up either.

As for the sound, i have tried setting every option as default, none of them worked through the monitor, the options are speakers, spdif interface (tx1) and HD audio hdmi out(i though it would be this one, but no luck)

Your not the first to have this challenge put to them

As pengipete once said :

Connect a plug from your power supply - that looks like the one on the right of this picture - to the socket attached to the fan - that looks like the one of the left of the picture.

take the side panel off if you have not done so already from what i have read they sometimes disconnect the side fan for the delivery and also have you removed the packing they put inside the case? oh just a mo this is a desktop isn't it just noticed this is in the laptop section.

thanks for the move on the thread, i have just taken the side panel off and gotten the side fan working, thankyou very much to all nemesis especially. Though i confess i am disappointed that i have to take the side panel off on day one to connect something that surely is part of the build and its a very tight squeeze to manipulate the cables out of the way to get the side back on with a connected fan due to a poorly placed internal cable tie. but anyway, its working now so i guess no problem, forget and move on.

Does anyone have some suggestions about the sound, it obviously works, hence over the speakers, i have fiddled with drivers as best i can(out of ideas) and fiddles with settings, but i just cannot get sound to go over the hdmi. Anyone help please?

p.s. have repped those who helped with the fan for trying to help as well as actually helping)

my monitor is an lg m228wdp, and i am using onboard sounds, didn't bother to pay for a sound card.

ASUS® M4A87TD/USB3: DUAL DDR3,SATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0
is the motherboard

Throwing me of a bit about the blue cable,do you mean vga?If so you wont get sound through that.If you are using hdmi cable I can only suggest trying another hdmi cable or shot In the dark, maybe sound is being muted.

try right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar (hope you are on windows) then choose select device and you should have the option to select the HDMI.

Oh looked for your monitor on lg website it was not finding it but does it have speakers ? (just getting the simple stuff out of the way)

Just to clarify, side fans are not plugged in to allow the person packing the machine to insert one of our expanding foam inserts if they deem the machine at risk during transport due to the CPU cooler etc etc etc.

So when a side fan is unplugged, it is entirely intentional.

Try right clicking sound icon/playback devices/right click amd hdmi output/enable or set as defaualt device or both.

ah fair enough gorman.

i have tried setting the hdmi as default sound, still hasn't worked. the bar shows there is sound, but none comes through, i have tested the cable on my ps3 and it works for sound.

1) Repped you for repping others. Good for you sir :)
2) Repped you for opening the case and getting down and dirty with the Guts. Personally, and for most, there's nothing better than opening up a new machine and having a tinker :D
3) You will prbably need drivers from Motherboard site to make sure the HDMI is running properly. Although it could be something else in the Driver area - I've found the K-Lite Codec pack generally fixes everything, with possibly the AC3 pack if you have sound issues with movies.

Not really very helpful... :D

thanks for the try dark, it detected nothing though.

thankyou very much for your post pez, i went onto the site and there are no never drivers for my motherboard.

Its jsut weird, the pc thinks there is volume on the hdmi, but it never reaches the monitor.
