OK so first of all you need to define whether you want a 1080p build or a 4k build. You either want one or the other. In my opinion building a 1080p system with the potential to upgrade to 4k is not really viable.

1440p with an eye to 4k in the future is more realistic plus £1k is pretty tight.

*edit* - hang on @Scott are you on one again?

Sorry for the late response. I drunk far to much whiskey yesterday with the father in-law so was in no fit state.

I have created two specs for you. They are both over budget but that is an extremely tight budget I have done an Intel spec and an AMD one. The AMD one is the most expensive but will give you the best bang for your buck as it were.

Please bear in mind I usually leave desktop suggestions to other people in this forum as I am more up to date on the laptop side of things. Hopefully someone like @JUNIOR or @MrWilson Will be along at some point to provide a sanity check and adjust no doubt the things in the builds which are not optimal.

The main reason for the Intel build being cheaper is that it only has 8GB of slow RAM compared to 32GB of fast RAM for the AMD build. 8GB isn’t really enough for Photoshop, but you might be OK with 16GB. I would always go for the 5600X over the 10600. The 12th Gen Intel CPUs are powerful, but more expensive. £1000 is a really tight budget for this use case.

Agreed with the AMD all day long. Is the AMD build alright though?

I have tweaked the build slightly, reducing RAM and improving storage. More RAM can be easily added later, if required. I have also included the silver warranty.

I believe there may be another alternative. If it’s just photo editing and not too heavy with any 3D work a humble iGPU would potentially do the job. So here’s a spec based on that premise and with room to grow.

The integrated graphics would handle most photo work without struggling and should gaming or video editing become a hobby, you’d just need to get the appropriate GPU, slot it in and then you’re good to go. I agree with the general feeling that another £200-£300 would allow for a better all round system but this is a budget build that would do the job.

The suggested builds above are almost exactly the same as my build except for a couple of differences. Personally I believe Photoshop will benefit from a dedicated GPU over an iGPU, but that would depend on the use case of course. However @AgentCooper suggestion of just adding a GPU later is a good one if things don't work out as you wish. In general a 4GB GPU is plenty. The 5600X is a great option really too I think.

My build had 32GB of RAM as I also use Lightroom which can be a total RAM glutton. Photoshop can be also but it is easier to control how it uses RAM from the outset.

I also had the PRIME motherboard. I won't start a long dead debate again but I think that's more than fine for photoshop and basic computing requirements.

Finally I also had a HDD for photo storage. Again for Lightroom mostly as from an archive point of view fast storage makes little to no difference to how that program actively works.

Here is my spec for what it's worth. It works great for all my needs....having said that, the PSU could certainly have done with a better choice from the start....

Oh, I absolutely agree that a dedicated GPU would be the ideal scenario but the 5600G is no slouch so felt compelled to throw it in there as an option if the £1000 budget doesn’t have much leeway 👍

Agreed AgentC. I edited my original post to add that your suggestion is a good one. (y)

Very noble of you 😆
Oh no! I think something might have been lost in translation!

What I meant was that I edited my post after you might have read it first time around and before you first quoted it (you had 'liked' it before I edited it) - as I wanted to echo what you said originally - yes a deidcated GPU would be best, but your plan for an iGPU would be a reasonable solution for the OP too! So I agreed with you first time around ultimately!

I didn't mean that I retrospectively sought to approve your suggestion! 😃

I could edit the edited edit, if that wouldn't be too much editing? But then we might have to edit our other posts which would then require another edit of the edited edited edit. Which would be a bit too editably cubic of me I fear?

I just love it when people edit posts and even more so when they edit the edited post................ :ROFLMAO:

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies a dedicated GPU would be the best option.
I know it’s slightly over budget but that will be fine.
trying to figure which one of the several computer builds would would be good.
So all in all which one is the best?
Im a little confused with all this can someone point out the best build out of these?
