New Build Advice

Hello!, looking for advice on this spec, any recommendations etc.

Will be gaming primarily 1440p, just gaming and internet use / watching videos etc, no video editing or streaming etc.
Budget around £2000 - looking at LG 27GP850 monitor.
Put 3070 TI so to future proof a bit and 850W PSU so can upgrade GPU in 3-4 years, just looking for advice on build in general.
Is the 3070 TI loud?, I have a GT 710 which is super quiet as it has no fans!!!

Cheers!

Hi there,

You've mentioned 1440p gaming yet you've listed a 4K monitor? I guess the budget has reduced?

Purely for gaming the above looks OK to me. I would probably have the 3080 over the 3070Ti as I don't think it's good value right now. The 3070 would be ideal but they're out of stock.

All round I would probably opt for the 5800X3D over the Intel offerings, purely for gaming that is.

Is VR still a consideration? I would look at more powerful CPUs regardless if you are.

Hey thanks for responding!,

LG 27GP850-B is a 1440p monitor I believe, the monitor in the earlier post - 32GQ950-B is but I changed the spec due to budget plus i will get 4K when I buy a new PC (6-8 years I guess)

The 3080 is only £100 or so more than the 3070 TI so I could get that instead, should be good for 1440p for the next 5 years or so?

I only really looked at the Intel CPU's and not AMD as that's the only ones Ive ever used so I wouldn't know the Motherboard to use, Not too bothered about VR to be honest, should I maybe get the 12600K which is £100 more than 12400?

Cheers!

I would up the PSU to around 1200W, I know how rediculous that sounds, but until they get to the bottom of these, it's worthwhile

If it were me, I'd also want a higher tier case, personally although that's likely me being over the top.

Cheers for the advice!, I dont know much about cases, is the LIAN LI LANCOOL 215 GAMING CASE OK or would paying a bit extra and get the fractal ones be better (Meshify 2 Compact or Define 7 Quiet). I dont really know what difference it would make, as long as it runs well is all I care about. Cheers!

The LIAN LI LANCOOL 215 is a good budget airflow case, but I can't comment on the Fractal because I've never used one.
I'm sure other users can give you better advice on it.

No reason really, would you say it would be better getting AMD?, I dont know too much about it to be honest. What components would I need to change, I assume the motherboard but anything else?, again the case im unsure about. Is the 5800X3D better for my purposes you think, gaming and general use really. Cheers!

Paul's Hardware had a good video recently benchmarking the most recent CPUs vs 5800X3D and a few other last gen CPUS. Breaks it down by compute (rendering, video production, etc) and gaming and near the end includes pricing as a measure. A good summary I felt. And to get to the spoiler, the 5800x3D ranked 4th, but it's a lot cheaper than the three above it.

And this video from Hardware Unboxed does something similar

Updated to AMD CPU and various other components, would this be better than previous, this is around £200 more than a 13600k model with same components (motherboard different). Is it worth the extra £200 you reckon? I'm not too sure about the motherboard, £2500 is about my limit here, cheers everyone!
Changed the case too, this one better?

Would a cheaper motherboard be better, I dont really know, im not overclocking or anything! - The Tuf B550 Plus is alot cheaper.

If you're not overclocking than a good B550 would be more than adequate. The downside would be that you'd only have one gen4 M.2 slot, the other would be gen3. So in your current build above, you could keep the 980 500GB boot drive, but the 1TB would run slower than it's max, so you could change it to a slower/cheaper Gen3 version.

Would you see any gaming performance between B550 and X570 (assuming you're not overclocking) - No, would be my opinion.

Edit: Lovely case, but I'm biased....

I've saved you £2 by opting for a faster drive in the Firecuda, for the secondary.

Contrary to the above I would stick with the X570. Direct Storage will take all the secondary speed you've got going when it's rolled out properly. The load times in games are expected to become seamless when the tech is used properly. Don't get me wrong, a Gen3 M2 drive isn't a slouch, but it's half the speed.

Otherwise, the B550 TUF board is spot on. I think you'd kick yourself getting it though.

The 3070Ti would be a saving, but I'm not convinced the value is there right now.

Oh, you would need to add a Wifi card with the B550 board also... if you wanted to have Wifi that is. Always handy IMO.

Aha cheers for the replies!, OK I shall save this config then, prob will be getting early next year so price may come down slightly, this should hopefully last 7-8 years or so, then will prob go for a 4K PC, thanks for the help.

No point in looking till you're in a position to buy. It changes so quickly :)
