New build - any obvious issues?

Hia,

Would appreciate if someone could cast their eye over this order and let me know if I'm making any errors. Only really looking to play games, 1440p 160hz monitor already here.

Is 750W definitely sufficient?
Will the cpu cooler be sufficient? (Call me a luddite, but I really don't want liquid in this).
Anything else obviously missing?

Hello. You don't need to overclock the cpu because AMD CPUs are already beasts especially the ryzen 9 5900x. Get more wattage for future gpu upgrades. Why don't you get a h115i processor cooler since you have the money and because it comes with a thermal paste.
Google Chrome is a RAM devourer.

Hi there. What’s your beef with liquid cooling? It’s more efficient than a fan and frankly, you’ll be needing it if you’re going for a twelve core CPU. I’ve had a H100i RGB Platinum running in my system pretty much constantly since purchase and it’s given me no problems. Another mod had a cheaper one going for about twelve hours a day for years and it’s still going, now in the PC of a family member. Gone are the days of horror stories about a cooler leaking everywhere. And even if they do leak, they’re filled with a non conductive fluid so there’s less chance of any system damage.

You’ve overshot it on the GPU, the 3080 won’t be necessary for your monitor. And depending on what titles you’re playing, the CPU could also be altered.

So my questions would be... what’s your budget and what types of games will you be playing? Do you want a flashy system or something discreet? If you can come back to us with some info, we’ll be able to advise the right configuration for you 🙂👍

Cheers, I can't actually see a non-overclocked option for any AMD chip from the drop-down list I'm offered. I'll wind it in myself if there are heating/wattage issues (but this does make me think I should just pump for 850W now...

Chrome is force of habit/work, I'll have Firefox too but close when gaming.

Looking to futureproof a bit, not really looking to add anything except maybe a 4k monitor for a good few years if I can help it.

Ha, I just ordered a pre-built from elsewhere and it's taken the best part of 2 months to sort the RMA. A cooler fan was noisy and when I went to check it out the thing was dripping wet, which had started quickly affecting other things. It's put me right off the idea of liquidity near electronics.

I also read it would be hard to hear if a pump went, which could put the chip at risk, but that Noctua fans could basically match for cooling/noise anyway. If this is inaccurate, I maybe need to reconsider, but the Part Picker didn't flag it as a risk?

Having had a couple of days with a 3080 build, I wouldn't be looking to drop to 3070 I don't think. Session/Dirt Rally/Star Citizen were getting great frames at max, 1440 but I don't think I'd have wanted too much less especially for a new build.

For Cyberpunk at max it's already starting to sound like there could be noticeable difference between the 3xxx cards here?

Budget isn't hugely constrained but I feel like I went fairly high end already. Quiet > flashy but it doesn't need to be silent.

That’s because you’re in the OC section, standard ones are in the ‘AMD Ryzen Extreme’ option 👍
Cheers, having ordered I'm not sure I can change this now then? Is it going to be important I make the change down? Not looking to fry anything if OC is going to be pure overkill.

You wouldn’t have to listen to the pump with a quality Corsair cooler. You’ve got the amazing iCue software that will monitor fan and pump speed and allow you to change the balance of them to suit your needs.

Well... if you want a 3080... who am I to tell you how to spend your money? Here’s the high end build that’ll eat up any game you choose to feed it.

Just to educate you slightly, Noctua coolers also come pre-applied with a quality thermal paste 🙂👍

Cheers, that's reassuringly similar to what I went with, but does have me thinking I'll want to swap out the OC 5900 for normal, and up the power to 850W.

This link suggests to me the Noctua fan should be OK if I can get the OC swapped down? https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-5900x/20.html

You’d have to call PCS and ask them if they’ll switch it over to non overclocked as that’s not an option available on the website.

I’d be very wary of the information on that link. I just had a quick scan over it and at no point could I see any mention of what case they used to house the systems, which leads me to believe they used a test bench. Which is not anywhere near a true approximation of real world use.

Cheers, I'll do that on Monday. It's only pre-production and doubt they have either in stock so hopefully no major issue.

Will try to get the OC AMD 5900 swapped for Standard on Monday. If that's possible then I think I'm going to keep faith in air cooling as reviews/forums all seem to think the Noctua will suffice provided it's not OC. Ideally it sounds like I'd go D-15 for CPU cooling but that doesn't seem to be available.

Quick update to avoid anyone replicating what I've just done.

Spoke to PC Specialist - the guy just advised to knock the OC off in the bios if I was concerned, which is fair. He was under the impression the OC version is same price as standard anyway. Just checked the PC part picker on site and that may be accurate, I make it no more than £15 (negligible) and I might have missed something.

Sought his opinion on the Noctua NH-U14S, he reckoned the new AMD chips are running pretty cool and would be perfectly comfortable with fan only. This matches what I've read on various forums (provided you fit the fan plate properly/certain way around which seems a safe bet here).

So, build so far is:

Case
COOLERMASTER SILENCIO S600 QUIET MID TOWER CASE
Overclocked CPU
Overclocked AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core (3.7GHz
@ up to 4.7GHz)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) - ARGB Ready!
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3600MHz (4 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
10GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 - HDMI, DP
1st Storage Drive
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 120 2.5" SSD, (up to 560MB/sR | 540MB/sW)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 2500MB/W)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Noctua NH-U14S Ultra Quiet Performance CPU Cooler
Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT (Wi-Fi NOT INCLUDED)
Wireless Network Card
WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Just over £2500 total and should run any game thrown at it beautifully @ 1440p, 60fps+++ for a very long time without upgrade. Very happy with that.

Should I consider the case? I like the aesthetic well enough, am I missing anything by cheaping out a bit here?

Cheers!
