Sorry! I'll definitely trust you rather than the very friendly PCS staff who mysteriously wanted another £84 out of me...

One final potential tweak before I leave it alone.

If I were to get a second hand (but ok) 1440p 27” monitor to replace my 1080p setup, would the 7800X3D and 3060 still do a decent enough job for me on at least high/very high game settings in 1440p?

I’m a casual gamer at best, but the games I do enjoy are things are quite intensive on the system. I’ve also got half an eye on Flight Sim 2024 coming out next year, and would like to be able to experience that without needing to upgrade only 12 months down the line.

Is there anything I can do now that would enhance any potential 1440p gameplay, or is my current spec a decent enough setup?

No, you'd need a 4070 really, or an AMD equivalent for something better value.

Thanks. +£275 would be a big financial hit if I’m not constantly gaming. So tough isn’t it deciding what the right thing to do is? Future proofing is a myth yet the temptation to get it now and get it right is crippling…

You could go for the 3070. It gets you into a good level of 1440p gaming without breaking the bank as much.

I’ve made a final upgrade to a 7850 XT in anticipation of a 1440p monitor upgrade in the coming weeks. It hit the sweet spot of not too expensive an upgrade from the 3060, the same VRAM, and better benchmarking at 1440p.

Also gone with a 5000X case to fit it in, along with h150i cooling.

Any thoughts?

7850XT? Do you mean the 6950XT?

5000X and H150i are fantastic, overkill.... but fantastic :)

It's a slippery slope isn't it :D
