New Build Thoughts Please

Hello everyone,

I've posted below what I consider to be a great system but of course this is why I am asking the experts!

Background - I want something that is going to be good enough for the next 3 to 4 years until the next big thing in graphics cards comes along. Ideally it will be a gaming pc and my starting point will be 1440 / 60 fps on max settings (I would say Flight Simulator Cyberpunk 2077 type of games to be running at max settings)

RAM - I know 64 gig is probably overkill but while I have the money why not? There will be some video editing there will be some Photoshop (or equivalent) I know I can get away with 32 but why not go for 64 while I can?

Spec Questions Okay so here is where I need your help with the rest of it. Is the motherboard good enough? Do I face any bottlenecks? Is the case and the cooling I have chosen sufficient or do I need extra fans or would I benefit from the next higher priced cooling system? Went for 1000w power supply.

As for the specs from the website, I've just included the hardware and removed the stuff about mouse mats and software etc, not really part of the discussion I don't think.

I'm looking at ordering this once the shortage of 3090 cards is over so maybe at least a couple of months but thanks in advance for any advice you can offer me :)

Bet you £100 someone will ask you why the Intel CPU... waiting in 1, 2, 3....
Because I'm not clever enough making the same spec with AMD components - if anyone that is kind enough can recommend me similar in an AMD build I would be eternally grateful.

What monitor resolution & refresh rate or make and model and what's the budget

Hey you and me both then. I naturally went for Intel first, what I've always done in the past.

I did say in my background, aiming for 1440 / 60 fps on max settings. I know its a high spec card and capable of 4K but looking at that at the beginning.

Price range for a monitor? Haven't thought about it but minimum £400 if necessary.

So it's £3500 plus £400 for a monitor? You can get a good 4K setup for that, monitor included. That would undoubtedly be the way to go.
Or, of course, spend a silly amount on getting a Samsung G9 Odyssey and the king of all 3070 builds to match it.

£400 on a monitor to go with a £3,500 system is not a good match: it won't get you the performance you should at that price.

Pair that up with the Samsung G9 (or the new AOC Agon if the G9 is a touch too much for the budget) and you’re in for a visual treat 👍

Okay so based off of the above and tweaked a little for my needs, I think I have finalised my build.

I don't mind spending a little more if for example I would benefit from extra fans or if the cooler would benefit from the next one up or if the PSU would benefit being increased etc. What I don't want 12 months down the line is to be in a situation where I'm upgrading parts already if I can mitigate those potentials now by spending it now. Hope that makes sense.

I'm still unsure of RAM but listed as 64 might be 32 on the final order but that doesn't affect the rest of the spec.

Thanks again.

I see you've only got 1 M.2 in there, if budget allows I'd add a Samsung 980 512GB for the OS to go, then your games could go on the 970 you've already got, this means if you ever need to clean install the OS you don't have to reinstall all your games

I wouldn't recommend 64GB of RAM for gaming usage (even with the editing in mind). If you stick with 32GB you can get the 3600Mhz option (faster the better).

You've sacrificed other areas to accommodate the above, I'm guessing, which is never recommended.

You've reduced:

The Storage - 2 m2's were recommended to cover any games etc. Also can double as a cache for the editing.
The PSU - Such a high end system warrants a high end PSU. The TXm is enthusiast low-level
Cooling - One area you should never scrimp is on the cooling. The H100i RGB is the minimum choice for this chip at this level IMO.
Wifi - The non-AX200 isn't a good selection at all.

This is how I would personally do it. Any savings should be made by dropping the M2 brand names IMO.

That is great, I can work with all of that with my budget - thank you.

So sorry finally, in your expert opinion(s) no extra fans necessary for that build?
