New Gaming PC

Hi All,

I am looking at buying a new PC as my old one is on it's last legs. I have looked through some of the forum posts recommending certain builds etc but it would be nice to get some input on others. I am also struggling to decide on Monitor, would be great to hear some further recommendations, particularly as I want to get a 3080. I saw some comments from other threads recommending the Samsung G7 for example. Interested in exploring the 4k options!

This is the current build I have put together with some points to consider:

Budget - Don't need to stick to a budget, want a high-end system without making any compromises (although don't need to go completely overboard).
Primary use - Gaming. I like to play games to in their max settings so want a PC that is capable of this! May also have use for streaming in the future.

I plan to put the PC somewhere in view so it would be nice to have something pretty to look at! Obviously the case needs to be functional / practical as well! This is also why I have added some of the extra LED strips etc. If anyone has any comments on these - let me know!

I appreciate there is a wait time on the Nvidia cards but I am happy to wait, I don't have a super urgent requirement for the PC atm. Is anyone aware of what the current wait time is however?

Storage - I got a bit confused on this reading the guide and not reaalllly sure what the difference is between the two types of storage options. Preferably I want everything running off SSD so everything is nice and quick!

Lastly - reading the August desktop guide, a new generation of AMD CPU is due, do people think it's worth waiting for this if I have time on my side? Any rumours on when these will be released?

Looks like a good start but we could definitely optimise it further. Would you be able to give us the configurable link from this build? It should be at the bottom of the page you got all this info for.

Also for budget, it’s very helpful to have an actual number to work towards instead of no budget build- we don’t know what your idea of overboard is so a physical number would help. I reckon the most you can sensibly spend on a tower alone at the moment is 3.5K would that be okay or are you looking to spend less than that?

I’ll happily answer the rest of the Q’s once I’ve got answers to the above requests!

Thanks!

That build looks great! My only question is any reason for the 2TB HDD? Any reason not to go full SSD?

Also that Samsung G9 is an absolute beast of a screen but that seems like something I would want for a simulator? Not sure I could focus on everything with the games I normally play. Although appreciate that you could customise how much of the screen it takes up.

I do already have one gaming monitor (27"), would need to dig out what it exactly is tbh. But was looking for a solid upgrade to make my primary monitor so probably looking for something slightly smaller :D

Appreciate all the input so far.

Reason for the HDD is that they are still viable for generally storage like videos, photos or programs where load times aren't an issue.

The 500GB is for OS and key programs

The 2TB drive is for games

The G9 is obscene I want one.. we all want one. We should all have one but I'm pretty sure I'd be living on my own if that happened

If the G9 is just too much for you, then another option is the NEW Samsung G7 it’s a 4K 144hz monitor. It’s a more conventional 28 inches and would be a nice fit for the 3080

you don't have to queue........

I can just see your set up now. Obviously with a G9 but something like this

Slightly different angle below to go with a different RAM option and, IMO, a prettier case. Ditto on the monitor. I would definitely be opting for the G9 where the budget allows. It ticks absolutely every box, check out the enthusiast reviews. If that's definitely a no-go then the G7 4k is a good option. I would probably want something a bit bigger for 4k though, but the budget is there regardless.
