New gaming PC

Hi, I haven't bought a new PC for 10 years and I am definately out of the loop. I would like a new gaming PC that would cope with current games - I'm not bothered about having the highest graphics settings when playing. I will also use the PC for general use and a media server (this is what the HDD will be for), and will be looking to purchase a new monitor as well (suggestions to match this build are very welcome!). I've messed around with the configuration below for a while after reading through Scotts building guide. Would this build be suitable for my needs? I don't really want to go any more expensive but would happily go cheaper! Thanks in advance - J

Usually the build is matched to the monitor - are you happy gaming at 1080p or want to go slightly better on the visuals / resolution with 1440p - its unlikely your budget stretches to 4k

Whats your budget on your monitor as well? Or tell us your absolute maximum budget (monitor+ desktop) and Im sure you will get some good suggestions.

Thanks - I'm looking at 1440p monitors (I like the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQZ), so a total budget of around £1,650 including monitor. This would be my absolute max, but I would be happier around the £1,500 mark (monitor + desktop) if its doable. Thanks again!

Hello again, I've changed some things round and would love for this to be an adequate 1440p gaming PC. I would also like to purchase tonight so please let me know if there is anything obvious that I'm missing and should really change.. I am happy to go upto £1,500 if you think the processor or graphics card can be upgraded for a noticeable performance increase / increased value for money. Monitor is not purchased yet but I do like the ASUS TUF Gaming 27" 2K HDR Gaming Monitor VG27AQ (or Z) - this will be in addition to the £1,500 for the PC.

Decided to go for the two M.2 SSDs to keep OS separate from games / files.

I'd be grateful if anyone could also answer these questions:

1. Do I need the graphics card support bracket?

2. Is the power supply overkill? PCS suggests 550w as "We have calculated your specification to require around 167W of power including a 20% allowance."

3. Is the processor cooling suitable? (I fancied some RGB as the PC will be on my desk😁).
