Hello,

I would like to purchase a new laptop for gaming.

I am not too bothered about the thickness as I will be using my car for transportation soon.

I do not want the liquid cooling as i already have a tower PC and this Laptop is mainly going to be used for portability.

Does anyone notice any issues with the below specs?

What's you budget ? Because without this information, we can't really help you.

And some general thoughts :
- get the golden warranty and the 1 year dead pixel guarantee
- the watercooling solution is, more or less, mandatory to use the laptop at his fullest
- don't take norton, it's a pain to remove ... and windows defender do the job nowadays

Hello. I don’t have a budget to be honest

I’ve been reading how the liquid cooling is mandatory which is a shame. This puts me if the laptop. I’m guessing the laptops that don’t have it as an option may be safer bet?

I really don’t want it to throttle.

I totally agree with you about the "optional" watercooling situation ...
I'm not sure to understand what you mean by "This puts me if the laptop" ^^"

The second point is, what will you do with your laptop ? Game, office work, dev, etc ?

My apologies I meant to say that if I need the water cooling that would be counterproductive as I want to use the laptop as a mobile device as I already have a beastly PC that I purchased this year.

I am going to be using it for gaming and work. I was looking into the 4070 but I feel nvidia have deliberately gimped it to make people get the 4080.

So, if I understand well, you'll use this laptop when you'll be on the move ? May I say that the performances will not be as much important as if it was your only computer ?
In that case, you can go for a less powerful laptop without throttle (the 15" ionico for exemple) or still going for this recoil and it may throttle from time to time (knowing that the 4080 heat less than the 4090) ...

The second option may be the best one, and if necessary, you'll be able to buy the watercooling later.

Oh, and, about your configuration, I tend to use samsung ssd, but it's a matter of preferences.

I want to be sensible this time around when building. I have a very powerful full spec PC that I bought this year from PCS that has all the bells and whistles.

So I’m thinking I don’t mind getting a 15” with a 4070 and then rely on my pc for the more demanding titles.

I’m only going to be playing mainly Diablo 4 on my laptop.

Hi, sorry, the meeting was longer than i thought XD

So, i saw 2 chassis that may fit your needs, the ionico 15" (that may be compared to a smaller 16" recoil), or, a little bit less powerfull, the 16" defiance.

Before giving you the spec', this is my thoughts about the 2 chassis :
- the ionico is more powerful due to the I9 cpu, but with the 4070, i'm not sure that the power of the cpu will be ever really used, so it look a little bit unbalanced to me. So, unless you'll have use of the cpu power, it may be paying for something not necessary.
- the defiance is a little bit bigger, 16", with a less powerful cpu, an I7, that may be more balanced with the 4070. What can be useful is that it has 3 ssd slot, for future upgrade. To be noted, it has a usb 3 port less than the ionico and a smaller battery (half the size, 54MW instead of 99). I almost missed it, but it look like the ram is only 4800MHz instead of 5600Mhz too.


So, the two possible chassis choice that may answer your needs ^^

If it was going to be your only PC I would have said go for the recoil 16 and run it on water at home and on air when out and about. The air cooling will be as good as most other similar spec laptops.

The benefit of the water cooling is quieter fans when under load and of course the extra thermal headroom it affords.

On air, the Recoil 16 should pretty much match other 14900HX/RTX 4080 laptops.
