Hi, I would appreciate some feedback on this laptop build please. I have configured it with the spec below. I need to upgrade my system for working mobile on production. I use Adobe Creative Cloud software, I especially work alot in After Effects and need fast previews and rendering. The same for video editing and music production. I'm hoping this build will be fast and be a combined great workstation. Many Thanks.

Hello @JonAld ,
With such small SSD, you are going to kill windows, 256GB is better and 512GB is the best.
Be aware, the Vyper keyboard is not complete on the numpad side, I've read this information in the forum

I'm going to strongly disagree there. I run Windows 10 (2004) and a bunch of applications in 128GB. My Windows and apps actually occupy about 50GB - that's including the pagefile, though I have hibernate disabled saving the 16GB hiberfil.sys.

If you game, and some games can be large, then a bigger system drive is very wise on which to fit the game installs. It's not the case that 128GB 'will kill Windows' however.

Thanks John for you feedback and advice. I need to get a new system very soon and only have around 1500 to spend. Its been around 10 years since I upgraded my systems and only 5 years ago with my curent laptop. Well slow and sticky now. So really seeking the best machine that can I get for the price. Why would they issue a keyboard with not a complete numpad on the side? Before the lockdown I was all set to get a 17.3 Cosmos, but they don't do that model now in the screen size?

Thanks for your reply and advice. I do not game. I mainly need a new system that can handle video editing and motion graphics. One with speed and power for rendering. I want to use more intensive 3D graphic packages in side After Effects too. Intially before the lockdown I was about to purchase a 17.3 Cosmos, but now noticed they don't do that range. I have around 1500 to spend so really need to get a new system soon. I will only be running mainly Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Reason DAW. Maybe a few other general apps but thats about it really. Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless there's something else that I haven't seen, the NumPad thing, I believe, just relates to the fact that, unlike normal keyboards (and a lot of laptops) there isn't a second Enter key by the NumPad...a lot of people have issues with that
Ok, thanks for the info on that, appreaciate it.

Given you are doing video editing etc, I'd definitely recommend a bigger drive as that one is likely to fill fast (unless you have an external drive you transfer files to?). I'd definitely recommend 512GB as a minimum in your case. The 512GB m2 is less than £40 more than the 128GB one so it makes economical sense as well as storage as buying an extra storage drive to fit would cost a lot more than that
Thanks for this, yes I will probably go with 512GB. I always use external hard drives anyway. So once I've updated this spec you think its a good build?

I would go with higher frequency RAM...the 2666MHZ (highest) is actually £1 cheaper for the 32GB

Remove the Bullguard AV software....it has been known to cause issues with some people and the in-built Windows Defender is excellent.

Increase the warranty to Silver...only £5 more for far better cover

Beyond that, I'm not the person to say if this is the best laptop for your needs as I am not familiar with the various laptop chassis
Thanks, appreciate your advice in this. I have had Dells and other makes in the past but this company seemed the right choice for a new system.

Jonald - Do you have your machine yet? I also need a laptop for editing and After Effects work, so I'd love to know how you got on with yours.
Thanks, Tim

Firstly, apologies Tim, for not getting back sooner. I asked your question to one of the sales team yesterday in an email so I am awaiting a response. However I did purchase my machine a few days ago, and it will be in production the second week of July. So I will definitely keep you posted, and will attach some pictures where and when I can. On the recommendation and advice from a colleague with some sound knowledge, I updated my SSD drive to a 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W). I think there are always issues with heat in general. That's why I spread my workload with other systems. However, I will be purchasing a desktop around the end/early next year to run in line with this one. For the past 10 years, I have used an MSI GT780DXR, Windows 7 and it's still going strong, other graphical stuff on an HP I have, Windows 10. I have done some pretty intense renders lasting hours too on the MSI, I mainly use it for music production now. Hoping my new system will be ok, and good for on-location purposes including general studio work. Cheers for now.

Thanks so much for replying. Good luck with the new machine and looking forward to hearing how you get on. I'm using your spec as a 'Guinea pig' before I take the plunge! Are you on FB by chance?

Thanks Jon. In fact, I've reversed direction and gone done the desktop route! I'll PM you on FB anyway to keep in touch.
