New Laptop

Thank you very much. I'll watch closely for the release of the no doubt highly expensive and temperamental New 3000 series laptops 😂

Might even be a case for getting a lower priced machine with a rtx 2080 after the new gens arrive.

Sure my wife will appreciate only one expensive laptop in the house for a few more months.

I've more than had my money's worth with this octane by March.

sorry to reopen this. How much difference is there between the Nova's 2070 card and the Proteus 2070 Super? how long realistically can we expect for AAA gaming on high settings for example.

There's a good comparison chart here to give you some benchmarks, NotebookCheck are a really great site for mobile benchmarks and chassis reviews, it's around a 10% gain:

2070 and Super are very capable cards, but they are almost 2 years old now, I guess they'll be strong for another 2 or 3 perhaps? It's very hard to tell with the way gaming is blowing up at the moment.

Yeah I've spent a few days doing some research. The 3700x would be a nice upgrade on the 6700k currently however like you said I also thought a similar timeline for the 2070 and 2070 super card.

They are both an improvement on the 1080 but by no means in a huge amount. Just torn between wanting a new smaller laptop and being patient.

I'm guessing that the new 3000 series laptops are going to be very very expensive compared to the spec I've been looking at. By then this Octane will be 5 years old.

I don't think I'd like to layout 2-3k on a gaming laptop again if possible and I'm wondering if I'm going to patient only to find new tech that's hugely expensive.

for 2 year old cards the machines with 2080 and 2080 supers in are still very expensive.

I think they’ll be slightly cheaper. The 2000 series cards were a first generation card with regards to hardware level Ray Tracing, hence why they were so expensive. 3000 series are slightly cheaper at each tier.

Thanks for that Spydertracks I've been looking online quite a bit. I would much prefer a 3000 series laptop. Think I'm going to have to either just bite the bullet and get the Nova or wait.
