New Monitor Upgrade

Hi, Looking to upgrade my current monitor, Benq GW2250H.
PC is mainly used for photo editing and general use. However, after looking around the forums lately, have become nostalgic for some of the games I used to play a long time ago so also light gaming (Half-Life etc). The monitor will need to pivot into portrait mode.
Currently looking at 27" Samsung Odyssey G35TF for around £200. Have also looked at some of the Iiyama models.
Can anyone recommend some alternatives around the same price range please.

Yes PCS build, due to arrive tomorrow. I realise its not as high end as some of the set ups on here and have probably gone a bit overboard on the m2 but it well exceeds the recommended spec on the software I use. Thanks for providing the spec. Your build looks fairly well balanced, and it looks like it'll handle your needs. The 550 is a very entry level graphics card, but it should handle older titles such as Half-Life without any issues.

Having Pivot support does narrow the field a little bit, but within this I would recommend the ASUS model available on Amazon for £206.

With this you get an IPS panel that will offer a great image for photo editing. I'm a big fan of Samsung monitors, but wouldn't recommend having a 1080p larger than 25 inches; at 27in the decreased pixel density is noticeable; 24in is the generally agreed sweet spot for 1080p.

Thanks for the information.

Would it be worthwhile increasing the budget to get a 27" 1440 monitor and is IPS the preferred panel technology?

IPS has several benefits such as better contrast ratio so colours pop a lot more, it also has better viewing angles.

IPS is the premium technology at the moment.

For any graphical work, you definitely will benefit from IPS.

Has anyone got any thoughts on Iiyama monitors? I have found 1 that meets my spec for under £250 (PROLITE XUB2796QSU-B1 - 27" 1440 IPS 1ms).
Not sure how good they are.

Iiyamas are well respected and have been around a while now, they're budget, but good quality panels.

It's IPS AND 75Hz which would suit your requirements really well for both image processing and gaming I'd say.
