New PC not starting up.

Hi,

I received my brand new configured PC today, which I had opened up this evening. I went through the plugging-in process, step by step, and was finally ready to hit the power button. Unfortunately, once it turned on, it switched off almost immediately. I could clearly see and hear the fans inside moving, alongside other RGB components inside. I also switched the power output from a power strip to the wall, which sadly made no difference.

Here are my specs:

Any beeps from the system at startup? Have you checked that the RAM and graphics card are well seated?

There are no beeps when starting up and I haven’t really checked those, just in case I do something bad, as it was built by PC Specialist, and not me.

As long as you take your time, there's little risk in checking the RAM and GPU, but if you're nervous, best to give PCS a call and let them talk you through any troubleshooting.

Do you see any small LEDs come on at the top right of the motherboard?

Is it possible your PSU isn’t enough?

Just a cursory check of the CPU and GPU and the bare minimum is 450W - https://www.whatpsu.com/psu/cpu/AMD-Ryzen-3600/gpu/NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-2060

I wonder if that plus the power draw from the HDD and the Cooler might just be pulling more than it can offer?
I would agree with this.

Nvidia recommend a minimum of a 500W PSU for the RTX 2060, and that's factoring in a founders edition, where aftermarket GPU's will often draw more power than that.

But, just on idle, it should be well within power limits, so simply powering it on should in theory be fine, it's when you're putting stress on it like in gaming I'd expect it to force a shutdown or a BSOD.

Either way, I'd suggest returning it to PCS and getting them to look and at the same time, seeing if they'd upgrade the PSU to a minimum of a 750W TXM

I could clearly see and hear the fans inside moving, alongside other RGB components inside.

Do you mean the fans and rgb came on for a moment and then it fully powered off, or that the screen turned off but the fans and lights remained on?
