Hi again all
I ordered the PC as the above spec and received it yesterday. Unfortunately my excitement turned to disappointment when I found it had been damaged in transit (despite the impressive packaging). I would be grateful for advice from any who know the ST case and understand what's inside my spec.
The damage is to the plastic top of the PC, which is cracked towards the rear and the rear perforated insert is bent. There is a 'rattling' sound from inside the case, which I assume is caused by bits of broken plastic from the top having fallen into the case. Since the damage is visible on the outside, I have not opened the case yet. I have contacted PCS to report the damage and they have offered either to send a replacement part or to collect the PC for inspection and repair.
It looks to me as though the plastic moulding on top can be removed - is it clipped into the case? In that case, getting a replacement and doing it myself would save me losing more time before I can use the machine. On the other hand, I'm worried about the bits rattling inside.
I see from the notice on the side of the case that there's a moulded foam insert designed to protect internal parts and prevent anything falling out. Is this insert well enough moulded that it would have prevented broken bits of plastic getting anywhere that could cause damage?
I'm worried in case any bits have fallen into (ie) fans or might have caused damage to the MB or other internal static parts and that I might not see that damage.
What is your advice? Open the case, remove the insert and any stray plastic bits and (with your help) check important places where bits might cause damage? Or return the PC to PCS?
I took some photos of the damage but I can't seem to upload them.
Cheers...
