New PC, worried about heat/sound

Good Day,

I am currently configuring a custom PC for my work (which requires a high-end GPU). However, I wanted to ask if I have enough cooling, and if the noise will be too much for home.

Additionally, I am using an Ironwolf drive as an HDD since the 4TB one has a higher RPM than the 4TB Barracuda. But since it is a NAS drive, would this cause issues?

This is the configuration:

Case

Hi there! This looks like a fairly solid start but could certainately do with some alterations.

On temps quickly, you've got the right cooler for the 5800X- it's a toasty cpu so requires a beefy cooler (which you have here!). The case could do with an improvement. Something like the Cooler Master TD500 or Corsair 5000D with some extra fans would be ideal. For sound, the Corsair AIO fans will be nice and quiet and the case fans on the cases mentioned above aren't espeically loud to the best of my knowledge so you should be good there too.

That said, the build could do with some edits in other areas (Mobo RAM, Storage, PSU) but we'll need some info before we can make any recommendations

1) Budget- what are you looking to spend? What does this budget include?
2) Uses- What will you be using it for? The more detail the better!
3) Monitors- what monitors will it be hooked up to? (Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be ideal)
4)The configurable link- The configurable link that's at the bottom of the page where you got the rest of the spec from would be fantastic, makes changes a lot easier to suggest!

Both the cases you suggested dont work with the fans I picked.

1) I already have a 3090, so now I am just buying the rest of the system (I added 3090 here to make sure everything is compatible and can fit). So, minus the price of the 3090, I want to stay below 2500 Euros (after tax), but I dont have to use all my budget. I am ok with spending less on a decent system.

2) Deep learning (so heavy use of GPU), and casual gaming, video watching, etc.

3) Thus far, no idea. This is my first PC. From what I understand, I should get a 4K monitor since I have such a good GPU. Plus maybe one with a good refresh rate. But I have no idea about specifics for now (I might not even buy it from here but from a local vendor).

4) I removed the GPU : https://www.pcspecialist.ie/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/DyqKQ!CQCU/

Can you please explain your suggestions?

2) Why two different SSDs?

3) Why a 1000W PSU when a 750W would be sufficient?

We match the motherboard to the CPU. Higher spec CPUs need better voltage regulation, so 5800x with TUF X570, 5900x with ROG STRIX X570. 5950x with Crosshair Hero. The first M.2 drive is for OS and programmes and needs to be as fast as possible. It also needs to be kept as empty as possible to maintain speed. The second SSD is for games, editing projects and other files that need fast storage. Having 2 drives speeds things up with data on a separate drive to programmes. Also, if you need to do a clean install of Windows, you don’t have to reinstall all your games. The PCS configurator specs a PSU that will work today. We prefer to give extra headroom. The PSU loses efficiency as it runs at higher loads and also runs hotter. The RMx PSUs will run at zero fan rpm at lower loads. The extra headroom gives you more option for future upgrades.

You don’t need the extra thermal paste with Corsair AIO coolers - they have their own paste pre-applied. The AX200 is a better value WiFi card with 2.4 & 5 GHz bands and Bluetooth. Bullguard is not recommended, as it has been reported to cause problems. I am not sure the extra black case fan is worthwhile. It is likely to be noisy and you already have extra exhaust fans on the cooler.

@Bigfoot has covered the above points very well. Another thing I noticed on the spec that I'd mention is RAM speed. AMD loves fast RAM, with 3200mhz being the minimum we'd recommend. It's a small increase in cost but will give big performance gains when it comes to anything CPU dependant or even just the effiency of the PC for daily use

It's worth saying that these are cautious "requirements": the world of motherboard power regulation is an extremely complicated one (and the rule "X570 is better than B550" is not a reliable one, however attractive an idea it may be!). Probably the 5900X, for example, would be fine on the Tuf B550, but it might be marginal, it might cost you performance, and it's just not worth the gamble. The above guidelines are a very good place to start.

However due to the latency of the RAM that PCS provide, there is very little difference in speed between the 3200 and the 3600

How does this look? I want an additional fan as to maybe help with cooling the GPU as well (since I will be using it at 100% for my work).

Also, just in case I need to reduce the budget a bit, where could I cut cost?

I'm not sure there's any point fitting that extra fan: it certainly won't go on the roof (because that's where your cooler is). Maybe it would go on the rear exhaust. It's not a great fan, though, and may be quite noisy. I'd be inclined to leave it off and only add fans if you need to for performance.

For cost cutting:
  • You could lose the sleeved PSU cables
  • You could drop the Firecuda 520 to an Intel 670p (or a Samsung 970)
  • You could drop to 850W on the power supply but don't: as it's a false economy
As to bottlenecking, probably not, but it depends entirely on workload and how demanding the work you do is on each of the CPU and GPU and in what proportions.

I dropped the fan and sleeved PSU cables. This looks good for me:

How hard would installing the 3090 be considering I am buying a built system? Would I need to remove the heater to put the 3090 into the mobo?

However, I am worried about the difficulty of putting in the GPU, given that this is my first PC (I mainly worked on laptops and gamed on PS4).

Would it be possible to suggest what I should do to properly install the GPU in the build above, including hardware and software installation. Would I need to remove any parts from the build (e.g. fan) to be able to put the GPU in?

Much appreciated.

Looks a good build, as far as installing the 3090 Youtube is your friend, also when you order without a GPU, they ask what GPU you are going to install so that they can lay the correct power leads in for you

Currently I am configuring a GPU-less build, as I have my own GPU. I must stay below 2500 Euros, not a single cent above. I want to check that my build does not have any issues.

It will be mainly used for gaming, and will be paired with a AW2721D 1440p 240Hz monitor.

My first NVmE drive is much better because it will be the one with the OS. In the future, I might swap the second one so it isnt a huge deal if it is slower.

Heya! The main change I'd make is swap to DDR4. There's currently very little to no performance benefit from going for DDR5 but gives a huge price hike, the RAM is also significnatly cheaper. Aside from a change of motherboard and storage layout you're pretty much there!

When it comes to RAM, if you're needing a significant amount, one option is to buy the PC with the cheapest RAM you can (1x4GB @ 2400mhz) then purchase your own RAM to put in. I don't believe PCS sells 64GB as there was stability issues with 3600mhz when Ryzen 5000 first came out and they just haven't added it back.

For game storage, there isn't really a recommended speed. All I say is just make sure it's on SSD, the time differences for loading aren't huge between SATA and NVME, but with Direct Storage coming soon that could change.

DDR4 build looks good (y) I'd still personally go with my storage setup though
