New PC, worried about heat/sound

When it comes to RAM, if you're needing a significant amount, one option is to buy the PC with the cheapest RAM you can (1x4GB @ 2400mhz) then purchase your own RAM to put in. I don't believe PCS sells 64GB as there was stability issues with 3600mhz when Ryzen 5000 first came out and they just haven't added it back.

For game storage, there isn't really a recommended speed. All I say is just make sure it's on SSD, the time differences for loading aren't huge between SATA and NVME, but with Direct Storage coming soon that could change.

DDR4 build looks good (y) I'd still personally go with my storage setup though
My reasoning is as follows: The first NVMe is the OS one, I dont want to touch that for many years, so I dont want to get a small drive. For the second one, this is the one that will be swapped whenever I want to upgrade in the future. So getting 1 TB now is fine as, by the time I filled both NVMes, I would have enough to just remove the second one, replace it with a larger capacity high speed one, and then maybe just sell it to get some value.

Also, do you know where I can request PCS to bring back the 3600MHz 64GB for the alder lake builds?

Fair enough for the first one although 500GB should still be plenty. For the 2nd one, does it not just make more sense to get a larger one to begin with theny you won't need to upgrade as soon? Gen 3 is still lightning quick and the Intel 670p is a decent little drive

The best way to request that would be by calling or the live chat (in the bottom left of the website)

500GB is sufficient, however, the first drive pretty much will never be updated. So I want a very fast and large NVMe that will not be beaten any time soon.

I have been gaming on a 500GB PS4 for 4+ years now and only recently did I get an upgrade, so while it is fine if we are talking about the second drive, it cant be used as a first drive. Also, I have a 2TB Barracuda HDD that I will be using for mass storage (e.g. movies, documents, etc). Even if all the games I got were 100GB (which is considered quite high even for AAA games), I can still have around 18+ games on my device. And I dont see myself playing 18 games at the same time.

However, I will take your points in mind. I might change to a slower but larger NVMe when I am buying.

Hi. As a work around to the DRM issue causing certain games to not work on alder lake builds, activating legacy game compatibility mode in the motherboard BIOS puts the E cores on standby which resolves this issue.

However, I am not sure, of the available DDR4 Z690 motherboards, which ones have that mode as of this moment.

Additionally, is there any major difference between the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite DDR4 and the Asus TUF Gaming Z690-PLUS WiFi D4 (besides wifi)? For a high-end build (12900k, 3090, 64GB 3600CL18) which would be more suitable and is there a significant difference?

I've merged your threads together so we can see the history which makes it easier to understand.

Have you ordered anything yet? If so can you post the full specs?

I dont believe the history is that relevant. For one, it mostly concerns an AMD build I was considering before Alder Lake launch or storage details. My current concerns (DDR4 Alder Lake and the DRM issue) are not at all related.

I have yet to order. For one, because I have yet to finalize the build (as is implied by my latest thread).

This is the current build, but I am split between motherboards (and since the Gigabyte one is more expensive and I cant go above 2500 Ill need to change some details if I go for that mobo).

My questions are:

1. Which mobos have the DRM workaround available right now?
2. Is there a significant performance difference between the two mobos in question?

If it's in building you can still amend it but it may include a small charge. It's the same process as normal though.
