New PC

This is the spec I've defined for my new PC. Purpose is work (some big productivity apps but no design/CAD/redering etc) and leisure including some gaming (RPG, RTS mainly but it can vary a bit). Budget is not really relevant but dont' want to go over the top. Want PC to last 5 years or so before replacement. Monitors are currently 4x27in 1440p (3 are 60Hz but one is 144Hz) but looking to replace those with fewer/bigger screens before year end. They might be 1440p, 1600p, 4k etc depending on what I can find that I like.

I'm down to PCS and one other. The price of the competitor PC is about £2,465 but that comes with an EVGA card, on-site warranty but a H100i cooler (they don't offer a H115i). Once I've bought the 32gb of memory, the PCS price is £2,415 (buy memory from PCS isn't competitive).

So any views on the build and any ways I can reduce the price/improve the PCS build?

Thanks for reading.

Hi mate,

Made a couple minor changed, added a 500GB boot drive and a dedicated 1TB drive for your other storage like games.

Also upped the CPU cooler to the Elite Capellix model. This comes with the Corsair Commander which is a £50 piece of kit that can be used to control all the fans and RGB in the system on one unit. It's a very hand piece of kit

Other than those which are both preference based and not required. The build is extremely solid

@Steveyg. Thanks for looking it over. I should have said that I will buy another M2 drive myself and fit that as a second storage device.

I've got an AIO cooler on my current PC and in over 5 years I don't think I've ever thought to change the fan speed. I just let it do the job. Plus I don't like RGB and if I go with the Define 7 case it's a bit pointless anyway. I may never actually use the Commander. So do the Capellix coolers actually cool better than the RGB Pro ones? Are the fans the same?

Thanks again

Wouldn't worry about the cooler then mate figured with the Define 7 RGB wasn't wanted but wasnt sure if the fan profiles where something you would be interested in.

I think the older models xt pro series is made by a company called aestek and the newer models rgb platinum and cappellex are made by a company called coolit I remember ages ago reading the pump designs are diffrent and pepole favour coolit as a company more hence why coolit now produce the corsair coolers

@Steveyg. Perhaps I should be interested in fan profiles but I'm finding with each new PC, I fiddle around with it less and less. It just seems to work as is and I leave it be. My last one I didn't even dust inside the case till recently and I've had it at least 5 years.

@jamiephillips909. I actually find the idea that CoolIt make the cooler a bit worrying. My last PC has been 100% reliable but the one before that had a few issues early on including the CoolIt.

I'll give the Capellix some further thought. I'm not buying instantly since prices do seem to be dropping a bit. The competitor price seems stable but the PCS one is all over the place. I'd prefer the competitor EVGA card to PCS Zotac/Palit (my current PC has EVGA and it's been hassle free) but at enough of a discount, I'd take a lesser brand.

I just dismantled and cleaned our portable fans (yes, it's still hot here). They've not been cleaned since we bought them (a good five years ago). TBH I don't know how they were still rotating. The muck, dust and dog fur trapped inside them would have filled the Albert Hall (I might be exaggerating a tiny bit there). Every last nook and cranny was jammed full of the stuff. I'm glad I clean my PC as often as I do! 😇
