Unless you disable that command in powershell, by default, windows doesn't shutdown when you shutdown, it actually hibernates which means it offloads anything in RAM onto the disk and then reloads that when it boots. So things like networking and other things don't actually go through a full shutdown, and loads of issues can occur as a result.

Only a restart will do a full shutdown routine.

Microsoft have been hampered about changing that for years, especially on corporate domains as it's the cause to so so many issues with mapped drives and SSO and other things, but they continue to ignore the community.

Ah ok thanks yeah I’ll turn that off tonight.

Hadn’t noticed PC going to sleep so assumed it was already off

Couldn’t get it to display anything this evening other than BIOS screen.
It just showed green post and white vga lights on motherboard so contacted PCS and they advised reseating RAM sticks. Then the LEDs just flashed red with an error code 98 on motherboard and the screen showed a message saying it POSTed in safe mode. When I would try exit BIOS it would then restart back to the safe mode message.

Will contact them tomorrow. Had GPU fault and replacement a month into having the PC, then issues with crashing as soon as it was returned (though it was more sporadic). This ended up being the motherboard that was then replaced. Wonder if it’s just bad luck with faults. Though I’m clear on shutting it down now.
Got a laugh out of the implication that I’m too cheap to keep the PC running or to buy a surge protector from a well known brand.

I'm not too cheap either, but turn all my computers off at the wall every night (along with the TV & stereo) - leave the fridge & freezer on though!

I was a bit surprised that PCS considered that clunk as abnormal, especially if the same clunk was happening if you powered on by the case switch.

Either that clunk didn't happen in their testing, or their testing environment is loud and they missed it, but to me that's certainly not a normal sound when powering on the PSU.
