Normally priced gaming laptop

Hi everyone!

I've been researching for a gaming laptop for 5 months now, obviously I'm not an easy buyer.
As a Witcher fan, I know that most laptops on a 800+ budget would play the game smoothly with ultra settings, but I'm willing to go a bit higher, as I want to be able to play most new titles for the next 4-5 years (eg Cyberpunk)

My budget is around £1200 give or take, and I'm really not sure what I should buy to have zero lag and game problems for the next few years.
More specifically, I've heard so much about the 1660Ti being better than the 2060, as the former is the best of the 1 series, and the latter is the worst of the 20 series.
Also, I'm not sure about the CPU differences and which would be the most future-proof.

I'm leaving here two builds that I've tried in the PCS site, I would highly appreciate any comments/amendments on how this would do for my needs and if there's something that shouldn't be there as it will be outdated or not enough performance-wise soon.

Thanking kindly in advance everyone that will contribute with their help :)

Best,
Yannis

I'm not sure if I'm reading this right but are you suggesting that the GTX1660Ti is more powerful than the RTX2060? Everything I remember saw the 2060 20% over the 1660 Ti, before even considering the RTX element of the card and the Cuda abilities.

Witcher 3 is also a very demanding game as a lot of AAA games are and wouldn't be very playable on an £800 laptop at all.

With a laptop, you tend to overspec the GPU as much as possible as it's not upgradeable and therefor will be the first bottleneck.

An £800 laptop will have a mediocre cpu, a basic gpu like the 1650 and a very small, slow ssd.

That will NOT play witcher 3 buttery smooth (60fps+) at ultra settings.

I have a 1650 max-q and it's perfectly good for gaming at 1080p with settings turned down. But not for ultra settings.

Wow that was quick! Thank you all, guys. Apparently I did need the help judging by the comments.

I'm copying my builds' links below as Spydertrack requested:

The RTX2060 is significantly more powerful than the GTX1660ti. They're both the same generation, the 1660ti is the highest of the non-RTX cards, 2060 is the lowest of the RTX cards, RTX being the premium version, but they were released at the same time. The 2060 will beat the 1660ti by a good margin.

Can definitely push it a bit higher, since I can use the finance option and pay it in 6 months, would even go a 100 more if it's worth it.

Thank you @SpyderTracks for taking the time for this. I'm planning on ordering before end of next week, so I'll post my appreciation here once I've placed the order 🤞🙌

No problem at all, the pro is well worth it as it's a much more robust chassis, so will last under pressure a lot longer. That would be a nice build.

Agreed with what the guys said, don't do the 16xx series cards, stick to the rtx cards, the 2060 without the RT cores in use is still a good 15%+ better than 1660ti, and DLSS 2 is looking to improve performance in newer games significantly, and that needs the RTX cards to do it.

Also remember direct x 12 ultimate is the latest version of that, and what the Xbox series x will be using (also termed DX12.1), the rtx cards are 100% support, the 16xx cards only 100% support 12 not 12.1, doesn't sound significant, but most games will try put the new technology to use, and the pc versions will inherit those technologies too.

to put the difference in actual numbers
edit: the laptops used are only found all the way in Upside-down-Land anyway so i'm not posting a competitor by any definition of the word :D
