Not sure about spec for 4k gaming pc

I may have gotten a bit caught up in the Black Friday deals and have ended up buying a Neo Odyssey G7 4k 165hz so I’m looking for a pc that can make good use of it in addition to some 3d modelling/simulation.

I did look at going for an AM5 platform but I was seeing a lot of complaints about stability which really put me off. I have a bit of knowledge of PC stuff but not a lot my only other experience has been picking up a pre built system off the shelf at curry’s so any advice would be appreciate.

sorry about that

Ive heard a lot of people complaining about these CPU’s either causing major issues with their system or just being a pain to deal with, is this true or just internet gossip? The 7800x3d and 7950x3d look amazing on paper but a lot of what ive heard makes me a bit nervous about buying one.

They had issues on release but that was sorted as of may this year with a bios update, no issues since that I’m aware of unless you’ve got a faulty part of course

I reckon Ryzen and the 7950X3D is a great bet for you here. And you can go quite indulgent on the build and still come in quite a bit cheaper than the Intel build, even if we double your RAM to 64GB. You could even upgrade to the 4090 and stay within the £3500 maximum budget, but whether that's worthwhile for you I don't know!

I don’t know how you did that but thank you very much, a lot of good recommendations that I didn’t think about like the RAM as i was planning to upgrade to 64gb at some point but this gives me the option of upgrading to 128gb for stuff like fluid simulation.

I had a look at fitting in a 4090 and came up with this, slightly over budget but I felt like 1200W would give me more freedom for future upgrades given this platform should be around for a while. Also for whatever reason when i was looking before it would only show the ASUS cards which seem to be very overpriced given that a very similar spec was coming in north of £4k so this is a nice surprise.

Amazing system! Very envious.

I think you might have been looking at one of the overclocking configuration tools before? I definitely agree the Asus cards aren't worth the extra price.

Ah that makes sense I did think the huge price jump was a bit odd. I‘ll happily lose out on at most a 100mhz boost clock increase and a couple of extra ports for £350 to spend on other components seems like a no brainer to me.

This is a good post that may help explain a bit about extra storage drives.

Thinking about it you could go for the 4TB Corsair drive instead of the two P41s to simplify the storage and save £30.
