is there nay place that states what voltage, core clock speed etc... PCSpecialist recommend? Laptop is nice on paper but so far hasn't felt stable.

Another quick update. I played a bit more with Ryzen Master today. I have been able to further reduce my voltage to 1.0125V for 3.9ghz and have had no crashes after 30 min of prime95 and countless cinebenchr20 runs. My temps during prime were stable at 82-83. My only problem is the fact that the voltage doesnt flanctuate when using manual oc and I am a bit sceptical about keeping a constant voltage running all the time. Btw are we meant to get our chipset drivers directly from AMD or only use the ones from pc specialists?
For any updated drivers, you'd need to go direct to www.clevo.com.tw.

You may find they're a bit behind on chipset drivers though in which case using the AMD ones should be fine. Just make sure you create a restore point before applying them so you can roll back if you need to.

Further edit, that's assuming you have the Nova as I'm a bit lost who has what on this thread.

That's odd voltage should still fluctuate when system is idling.

I went the shim route massively reduced GPU temperatures and made CPU temperatures manageable with default 88w ppt etc ( by 20c when idle and 15 underload for GPU and by 10 or so for CPU) this is in combination with bios update which also rescued CPU temperatures by 5c or so. :)

Started with 50x50x0.5 shims that I ground down to fit between screws etc.

Ended up with something like 42x45 on CPU and 47x47 for gpu.

I do have the NOVA
There are very few drivers on clevo's website for the nova atm so I ended up getting almost all of them from PCS website. I will try getting my chipset drivers from amd's website and Ill update with results.

Voltage does not fluctuate when using manual oc in Ryzen master but the clocks are down clocking as normal.

I am really glad that you figured out a solution for your issue. If I remember correctly you had pretty severe overheating issues? What kind of temperatures are you seeing now and what material are the shims you used made out from? I am thinking about using plastic washers to increase the heat sink pressure. I currently don't have much time to open up the laptop but I will hopefully be getting around doing it later this week. The laptop gets uncomfortably hot and loud when running on default settings, even when browsing

What exactly do you mean by 42x47 & 47x47?

You need to contact PCS then as there is a bios update to address this if it isn’t a paste issue. Temps should be perfectly normal both on idle and under load, if they’re not there’s an issue that need addressing BEFORE applying any voltage optimisations. Those should only be applied to further optimise temps on a working system

Thank you! After 50 minutes on queue I managed to get through. They asked me to write an email requesting the bios update and I was also warned about the possible risks of updating the bios. Would I be covered by my warranty if things went wrong?( given that I follow their instructions) Im currently running my 3600 on 3.6ghz with any oc disabled because activating performance mode in CCC gives me mid 90s in cinebench. I will wait to see what they say. In any case I will try to measure temps before and after repaste/bios update/chipset update/washers trick and let you know

Yes, with any BIOS update, you have to do it under they're direction and then you're covered.

I take it you've done normal thermals troubleshooting? You don't need a BIOS update unless the thermal issues can't be solved by normal means.

Are you able to share via PM email address to request bios update. As my temps are generally just as high as you have been describing.
I also have a Nova laptop with thermal issues, over heating. etc..... I have to enable a custom Ryzen configure on startup else i endup with a overheating laptop that can't even load chrome without reseting due to heat issues.

That's the size of the copper shims I used :]
GPU gets 77c under load playing metro exodus for 1 hour.
CPU gets to 97c on hottest core 85c average temperature.

Unfortunately that one hot core can still cause thermal cut off at times so I've taken to just running the CPU without boost behaviour.

You can do this by setting max processor state to 99% in windows power options. Or you can manually set max speed and voltage. This will net you better results as often you can have the CPU run at 3.6ghz for example but lower voltage that AMD stiuplate.

Have you done basic thermal troubleshooting?

You have to contact PCS for a bios update otherwise you’ll void your warranty. But there’s no point doing that until you’ve done basic troubleshooting.

Done all the thermal checks. had resulted to underclocking to 3Ghz most of the time with lower voltage so laptop wont shut off. An Ok Is that via phone? or can you email contact support?

So you’ve done a repaste?

As we’ve said many times. If the laptop is overheating (which means thermal throttling or shutting down) it’s because something isn’t configured correctly either software or hardware wise. This needs to be addressed before doing anything like voltage tweaks or underclocking (why anyone would want to reduce performance I don’t know). Those things should only be done on a healthy system to OPTIMISE temps not as a way to deal with overheating.

If you’re undervolting or underclocking as a way to manage temps, then that’s wrong, you’re not treating the underlying cause but slapping a bandaid over a broken leg. It’s not fixing the issue.

The chassis runs perfectly well when properly configured.

If you’ve been through thermal troubleshooting and it’s still not reducing temps, then you need to contact PCS as it’s likely a BIOS update is required to resolve voltage issues on early BIOSes.

Yes done a repaste already. I'll note additionally when i opened to repaste one of the screws that hold the plate against the CPU was also lose to point it was clearly applying no pressure. Should I contact via online chat or best to try to call? (aka tomorrow when open)

Best to call I think, apparently the online chat isn't working atm.

Alright thank Spyder ill call in the morning. I suspected i had a bios issue and just assumed Clevo and PCS would release a update eventually for everyone to apply. But if I goto call it get it makes perfect sense. Thank for info.

I have done pretty much everything software side and I will be repasting now. I understand that BIOS updates are kinda the last thing to do but any kind of optimization is welcome, especially since this model is pretty new and unique. I have asked PCS if my Ryzen 3600 would benefit from the update as so far I have only heard that it benefits the 3900

Even if it became public knowledge that a BIOS update was available, everyone would have to contact PCS before flashing it on their build. Unauthorised BIOS updates may void the warranty.

Another update:

I opened up my laptop today for an inspection and a repaste. First of all I realized that 1 CPU & 1 GPU screw were not properly tightened and I also thought the PC'S paste job was not to great. I repasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and my CPU temperatures now seem to be a tiny bit better. Weirdly enough on the first startup and set of benchmarks after repasting the temperatures seemed to be even lower than what they are right now. Laptop still hits Mid 80-95 during performance/entertainment mode, which temps I guess are considered within the acceptable range but I still don't feel comfortable with my laptop running like that all the time. Performance - Entertainment mode also causes incredible temperatures spikes . The fans seems to struggle to catch up with those spikes and I can end up with 95-96 degrees on the cpu for a few seconds before they decide to kick in and lower the temperatures to mid-high 80s. This happens regardless if I use manual or automatic fan mode.
PBO and default ryzen master profile seem to not be very efficient and pump a lot of voltage to the processor with not really great results. Manually overclocking my cpu to 3.9Ghz/1.0125V gives me around 75degreen during Cinebench r20 and 5-10% better scores than PBO. It looks like manual OC is a nobrainer. I only wish the voltage was not static and there was a way to have a voltage/frequency diagram I could configure or there was a way to offset voltage for PBO. I think 1.0125 is quite a safe voltage to run 24/7 thought, isn't it?

Yes, with any BIOS update, you have to do it under they're direction and then you're covered.

PC'S got back to me and said that my warranty will be void if something goes wrong with the BIOS update. I asked them for further clarification since it seems weird that following their update instructions will void my warranty. I understand that doing something stupid will void my warranty but I do not think this is the same. Also I know that pretty much the chances of something going wrong are very minimal, but what happens if a BIOS update offers some really needed features or improvements?

I don’t think that’s accurate, I’d suggest the person you spoke to didn’t understand what they were saying in this instance.

So long as you contact PCS and flash a BIOS they provide, ie not a custom BIOS or one from another vendor, and flash under their specific instructions then you’re covered by warranty should anything go wrong.
