Numerous problems, mostly HDD

So when i first got my PC there was a selection of 2 Windows 7's that i could choose from, i just left it and it chose the first 1 i imagine and i started on that.

A few weeks ago. i uninstalled a game called League of Legends. nothing virus about it or anything. But i couldnt open any of my other games cause of the link was missing.. so i thought i had uninstalled something i shouldnt of..

so to make things better ( i would of hoped) i reformatted.. then after much effort. i finaly got rid of deleting the entire Windows.old folder. a few weeks after. i started up my PC, and it says HDD C// or something needs to be checked for file consistancy. so i let it run. it froze, i called PC specialists. he said to check my blue light infront. it had frozen. so he said to restart.. i did.. it came up again. and everytime i let it run. for like a week after i got home from work.. but i then started to stop it as it didnt seem to do anything other than take me 30minutes to turn my PC on. i then had to reformat. as everytime i opend a program it said filename.exe is courrpt on my desktop toolbar at the bottom right. i reformatted again.. which is where im now at.

when i turn my pc on.. it comes on fine.. but when i get to desktop it freezes.. waits for ages. it wont let me open anything or do anything for a while. eventualy i get to open a webpage or google chrome without it freezing. also when i open google chrome it says some msvcr.dll folder is missing please reinstall the program and try again.. no matter how many times i reinstall google chrome it doesnt help.

Any suggestions?
the only thing i can think of is my HDD messing up. but i hardly know anything.

Thanks in advance.. sorry for spelling / grammar.. mom is calling me for food :D

You might be best posting your pc spec and which version of win7 you are using.

Have you tried using ie instead of chrome to see what that does, also have you updated all your drivers after the reformats ?

yes i updated my graphics drivers. but i dont know how to update anything else. my gfx is the only thing i updated. as well as my mouse (razer deathadder 3.5g) Thing is.. does reformating soo much harm my pc ? like the windows.old folder is a pain to remove when i reformat. and how can i wipe my HDD clean and start over.. mayb any checks i can do in my pc to make sure the hardware is fine. my pc is on wood off the floor. its watercooled. and my fans are on med speed.

How exactly did you reformat Kevin1?a windows old folder shouldn't be there after reformatting.
To do a clean install, follow instructions in your welcome booklet.
Back up any data you want before doing so,as this will wipe everything.

when i reformat. i insert the CD and press reformat that way. i reformat my C/ drive. thats the only option there. and i cant make it so that there is no windows.old folder after reformatting. if you have any ideas pls reply here. as i cant phone PCspecialists.. they dont work when i get home. and i work too much to be able to contact them on phone.

also does reformatting a lot harm my pc ?

thanks in advance.. and nice to see such quick replies.

many thanks

Nope i dont. when i phoned PCS they told me to insert my CD, and click repair my PC. i did the windows startup repair.. but it found no problems. and i cant system restore either because of the reformat.

i dont mind reformating again.. i just want to know does it harm my PC at all ?
and also when my pc freezes. it says explorer has crashed do you want to restart.. when i can press restart.. it works fine. perfectly. no hassles. very fast etc. and no i only get that msvcr.dll problem when i try downloading AVG or when i use google chrome.

Ok,I take It when you insert the disc & restart It must be set as first boot.
What you are doing (start up repair) is not a clean install.
To do this refer to your welcome booklet.
It may not be necessary to do that.
Try installing ms security essentials & firefox(or just use internet explorer) instead of AVG & chrome.

well if i did a clean install which i would prefer. as my pc still freezes. would pressing f8 in start. and choosing cdrom as startup. is that a clean install ? or not ?

and the welcome booklet. is that from pcs or from amd. as i have tons of booklets with my welcome pack.

and ty for your help. and btw. is there any way to tell if my pc is behaving. it feels like im running a 512mb ram sometimes (in the freezing process)

It's the welcome booklet from pcs.
I don't think a clean install would solve the freezing problem though, sounds more like hardware or drivers.
You could test your memory with the Memory Diagnostics Tool. go to control panel/Administrative Tools/Memory Diagnostics Tool.
Also have a look in event viewer, control panel/administrative tools/event viewer, could give you a clue to what's causing the problem.

Thing is.. it only freezes when i first turn on my pc, if its stuck i restart it. with the restart button on the antec 900 2 case. then eventualy it will startup fine, with only like 2minutes of freeze in the start.. then after that its good as gold. excluding the .dll errors.

Yes. but still not perfect. froze a tiny tiny bit. but i was able to open things fine. i suppose loading some stuff would b slower as its safe mode.. but yes it loaded fine

Press start, type in msconfig this will open system configuration cllick the startup tab.
This will show programs initiating on start up,
untick these, one at a time then restart,if there's a lot, untick half of them then restart.
basically try to isolate the programme that may be causing a problem.

Also one thing i think i should say. is that when i used to start it.. it would wait like no time at all and AVG would allow my network through the firewall. but then avg had that problem before. so i removed AVG. enabled windows firewall. and now when i start the freeze is when i try open the start menu. my taskbar just fades. i removed AVG because the free trial ran out. and was going to install the free version. but i cant download the free version as it just says msvcr.dll is missing.. so i cant reinstall it.
